Not to change the subject, but - I"m wondering if people in other countries routinely use AMAZON for buying stuff - and how much do you use it?

Here in the USA it has become a staple such to the extent that my sister in law, if she so much as runs out of paper towels, she's more likely to order it same-day delivered from Amazon than make a trip to the grocery store. They also recently started doing groceries and prescription medications.

We use it constantly - sometimes just to 'try' stuff, as their return policies are extremely liberal - free returns, free postage, instant refunds, etc.

Is it to that extent in other countries or not at all or in between?

I’m in the UK and used to use Amazon but now use other platforms such as eBay.

Number of reasons, primarily price and a lousy search engine when looking for something specific.

I also find their search to be a bit lacking. It seems to mostly just return to you promoted items of their choice - which fortunately a lot of the time I find what I want, but it's not the best

I have never used Amazon for eight years and never will buy anything ever again from them.
I ordered a PCMCIA reader eight years ago and it arrived DOA. Amazon not interested at all. Basically told me they weren't interested and as far as they were concerned they couldn't care less. I don't care if it will cost me more from someone else. After all there is nothing more expensive than something that doesn't work. I have just the same regard them as I do a bunch of money grabbing b*s on a popup market stall.
I have amazon.com blocked on all my devices.

My stepdaughter uses Amazon successfully, and she has managed to get an item returned though it took a bit of doing. On the other hand, my only personal connection to Amazon was a scammer who sent me a spoofed e-mail saying my order had been received and if I would pay the balance of the cost, they would ship whatever it was. But I had never bought anything through them. I asked my wife and she denied making such an order. So I didn't bother with canceling it. It would appear that "Amazon spoofers" are a numerous bunch of scammers from the reports I've seen online.

That seems odd, as here in the US their return policy seems pretty good. We have returned items that either didn't work or we just didn't like with no problems. Heck, they make it easy as we can drop off return items at Whole Foods (a grocery chain affiliated with Amazon).

We had no issues with Amazon returns, and we use them a lot, but always price check, and check the supplier direct if possible.
UK based, and Amazon are very helpful normally.

I tend to use it only for CDs as the selection in NZ is a bit limited and I guess my musical tastes aren't mainstream enough. It works for me, though sometimes the delivery may take 3 weeks, other times 3 months.

Very odd that two of you had a hard time - I have found my Amazon experience to be exactly the opposite - they take everything back, no questions asked, and even provide me free shipping label to do so at their expense! Almost too good to be true. Even clothes that have been worn, if within the 45 days. We often 'try things' from Amazon. But we do hvae the Prime membership

If you look more closely, I made it clear - my experience was with scammers who try to get you to send money to pay for something you didn't order. Claiming to be, but not actually Amazon Prime employees. Online thieves.

Ahh - yes, I get it now. That's what speedreading gets me sometimes :)
