Seems the wet lands offer a buffer against hurricanes lessening the impact inland. The storm surge is greatly reduced, and the wind speed can even be reduced, or so they are telling us now. Seems the damning of the Mississippi river (well levees and such) has forced the rivers sediment to flow out into the Gulf, instead of being redeposited in the estuaries. Thus causing the estuaries to loose ground (pun intended) to the Gulf.
Sounds the tree huggers have this one right for a change.
