Hello everyone!
In my office we have multiple databases to keep information on registering students through our different programs. Myself and the senior secretary here (I am the Student Worker) are trying to do some work on changing a few aspects of a form in one of the aforementioned databases. A few days ago, we opened the db on her computer and she went over some of the changes we need to make on the form within. When I went to open the same db on my computer (we are connected through a network), it shows the following icon next to the file name:
db%20icon.JPG

I tried opening the db, and it will not open. However, if I load Access itself, then open the db through it, it opens just fine. It just won't open by double-clicking on the db itself.

We both use Microsoft Access 2007, so I didn't think it was an issue with the format it was saved in, but perhaps I am wrong. We re-opened the db on her computer and re-saved it in 2002-2003 format, and it will open on my machine that way, but now I want to know why it won't open in 2007 format!

Any suggestions? Much thanks!

===EDIT!!!===
I forgot one other thing. We noticed a strange thing had been added to the db. There is a new table titled MsyCompactError. When opening the table, there are 4 columns. Column one is titled, "ErrorCode" and contains "-3831" in its record. Column two is titled "ErrorDescription" and contains "The current file format no longer supports user-level security. The conversion or compaction process has removed any user-level permissions." within its record. Column three is titled "ErrorRecid" and its record is empty. Column four is titled "ErrorTable" and its record contains "MSyACes". I tried looking this error up online, but could not find anything. What is all this??? Thanks again!

I would think that's a missing shortcut. Create a new shortcut.

1. Access 2007 databases must be in a TRUSTED location. See here for more about that.

2. The database should be split (for multi-user use) into a Backend where the tables reside and then a frontend where the rest reside and then each of you should have a SEPARATE copy of the database on your computer (and that way you can set your trusted location - the backend doesn't need to be in one).

Hi
did you try to convert 2003 db to 2007 format using Access 2007? if yes, then how can you save back it to 2003 format?

You can convert to 2002-2003 or 2000 format from 2007. :)

Thanks for the replies! Please see my OP, I added a last bit I forgot to mention.

Don't mess with those tables, they are system tables which you should not bother messing with.

That's just a log to say that the conversion to 2007 would not have user-level security. You have a backup I hope?

Thanks for replying.

1. All of our databases are already saved in trusted locations.

2. I am not familiar with splitting databases. I will look into doing that.

Are either of those reasons for why I cannot open it on my machine?

Yes, both would be. The database located on someone else's machine isn't in a trusted location for your machine and I doubt it will let you make it one.

As for splitting, check this out.

I am just wondering about the icon which show that there is no program associated with it.

Okay! Guys see ya when wana be yaa... its time to me yaa... :) feel sleepy its 1:14 AM here.
bye

I can't see the pic because it is blocked here at work (for some reason). It would help if it was uploaded to this site as you can do that.

Its kind an icon which you can find in your windows explorer when there is no application associated with it. wonderful..

I've uploaded the icon onto this site so you can view it, SOS. I'll insert it below.

I have read about splitting the db's, it sounds pretty useful actually. I will read more just to make sure I understand it fully and give it a shot. Thanks so much for all your help so far!

Sorry, it didn't upload. You have to click on MANAGE ATTACHMENTS and then click the browse button, navigate to it, then click OPEN and then click the UPLOAD button and then it should appear as a link on the attachments form. Then you can close the attachments form and go from there.

It should show up like this.
