Hi, I have a problem that is stumping me a little...

I am trying to set up a tracking register that accumulates bonus payment entitlements at 2 different accrural rates.

i.e.

Travel Bonus $
Rate 1: 2 per year accrued daily (pre Jan 1, 2008)
Rate 2: 3 per year accrued daily (Jan 1, 2008 - Current)

This info is to be used to check if member has accrued an entitlement, and to track bonuses paid to members.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Adam, that is surely going to be a fun challenge for you, I'm sure. That's probably why you haven't had any takers yet. :)

I don't have time (nor the desire) to try to design this myself. However, I can offer you a sample or two of something that might get you going in the right direction.

The first is a sample of how to do mileage reimbursements based on effective dates (kind of similar as your rate of reimbursement will change based on a date range).

And the second is something I wrote to help someone out here calculate ebay fees with several levels of change based on a base amount and then changing as the value increased (less helpful perhaps, but maybe you'll get something you can use).

So good luck with it and remember, you can post any specific questions to the forum here and usually get assistance (but remember we're all volunteers here so temper your expectations accordingly). :)

Thanks for your help.... I absolutely appreciate any help I can get and have always had great support from this forum...

Things like these examples often help me sort these problems out myself, but as you have noticed, this is a ripper.....

I am thinking it might be easier if I work on a standard 3 per year accrural program (calculated daily) and them play with the dual rate problem over a period of time...

One of my problems is I'm a new access programmer and my brain continually slips into excel mode and I usually loose track when trying something new from scratch... What the guys and gals on this forum help me do is they usually provide me with the guidence I need to keep in access mode and not excel...

Once again, absolutly appreciated....

Cheers.

i think this is a question of semantics

do you really have two different alternative calculations for the same bonus (and then do you pick the highest or lowest)

or do you have two different bonuses that just happen to be called the same - in which case give them different names to distinguish them.

but neither is hard

you have your calculation, based on elapsed time, - so just store the payments, and you owe the difference not yet paid.

What I have is an entitlement accrural. Up until Jan 1, 2008, it accrued at 2 per year calculated daily. We then increased the entitlement to 3 per year. Drama i have is I have people who started before the change date (therefore needing a calc to work out the two different accrual rates to give me the number of entitlements accrued to date), and people who started post Jan 2008, only needing a simple accrual of 3 per year calculated daily.

I was hoping to do this all in the same system at the same time as I have admin staff managing this register currently, and they do not need the extra complication in their day to day duties.

The way I see it, I have 3 options;

a. a system that does the lot (if I can figure one out)
b. 2 systems merged together to create 1 report (could get confusing when to use which system)
c. Draw a line in the sand, start from a calculated accrual based on all entitlements accrued up to Jan 1, 2008, then add standard 3 per year accrual

ie Bill Jones started Jan 1, 2007 (therefore accrued 2 entitlements up to Jan 1 2008, so I set his start number at 2 instead of 0 for a new starter.

Personally, i'm a sucker for data integrity and I favour the system that has all the detail in it, although limitation in my skills does lend towards option c.

Either way, I'm sure i will learn a thing or 3 from the people and skills available in this forum.

Thanks
