Reminiscing

Glad to be of service :D You didn't even like my little link there? Reminiscing = Rhodesia as opposed to Zimbabwe?? Come on, surely I deserve a teeny weeny point for trying. Am I trying? You do find me trying don't you :D

If you are referring to Rhodesia, then you can't equate that with the current US government policy. You should either have it all referring to the past or the current.

I'll give you 0.25 points for effort.

I know, it was, after all, the British Government that sold Rhodesia down the river. Now that it's Zimbabwe, the rest of the world just like to nod on and say "isn't it terrible, someone should do something about that". But nobody will, the Chinese have helped themselves to all the copper, the tobacco plantations have been destroyed, even the wild life has been eaten out of necessity, so there's nothing left for the west to fight for

Don't forget the whites stole the farms from the blacks then made them work for peanuts whilst the whites lorded it and made a mint in the glory years down there.

Lets be more specific. Southern Rhodesia (as it then was) was a British colony set up as the name suggests by Cecil Rhodes so it was actually British White settlers who were "lording it and making a mint" but at least then the country was producing enough food for ALL its inhabitants and was in fact exporting food to other african countries.

True, and most South African whites ran home to blighty when the going got tough. Ex South African whites are the most arrogant balshy lot who expect people to run round and slave for them.

Never mind that the blacks - whose country it is, were treated as little more than cow dung.

Describe irony:

A thread about how people used to get on and not get involved in political arguments gets derailed into an argument about politics...

My apologies. I must not rise to Colin's bait.

It's an interesting topic, is that frowned upon?

We're absolutely sure now that that wasn't the American that started all that?????:D

LOL, that would be the expats, most of the South Africans are still stuck there!

Yes, never mind that, they have their country back now, they can treat each other like cow dung and contribute to the staving nations. Oh, and while they're doing it, the white over lords from the UK will sit back and tut and say what a shame, but it's nothing to do with us because they don't have anything we want...

I don't know if anyone would be surprised to hear that my kids are all still home. Hell, lol.... they aren't "kids" anymore. Josh just turned 20! He was 13 or 14 when I first started posting here.

I'll update you on the other parts of my life later. It's not ALL about the kids, is it? LOL.... are you going to be there for me sweetie when you have to help me deal with the empty nest syndrome?

I was 21 when I first joined AWF. It seems such a long time ago now although Rich is still 21 so I would sure like to know his secret :p

Actually I still have the photo with you and your son saved on my computer. I have a folder in my pictures album at home that simply reads "Access World Forum Buddies" :)

Just been reading through the link to the old thread again and saw that you had just started a new job at the time. Are you still with the same employer? You've not updated us on how Tess is doing yet, I won't let you forget ;)

I just moved away from home finally at 26, bet my parents thought they were stuck with me ha ha! I'm only an hour away in the plane though and still fly home regularly to see everyone. I never thought I could cope with moving away from home as I've always been such a homebird but it's been good and I've settled well.

I'm still with my same employer as well, that's been approx 4 years now but I am in a slightly different role. It all came together at the right time as they started looking to expand the team and I wanted a move so they offered me the transfer to build and train a new team. It's been tough with so many new people learning the ropes but it's now starting to get a little easier.

As you may have gathered from my previous post I am not with the same guy that I posted the pic of in the other thread. I have been with my not so new partner for approx 2 years now and much happier so everything is going well for me at the moment I am pleased to say.

That's my update then Tess so over to you :)

Me too! But, I only saved the women. ;) :p

Seriously though, it's amazing how long we've all been on here and helped each other through the years, even if it was only to come into The Watercooler and enjoy each other's company. No one ever fought, EVER. We had NO SPAM! Those were the days, huh?

I was also 21 when I first came here. Being 26 now, I look at how much this place has changed my life for the better on so many different levels over the years. Sure, I had plenty of downtime where I didn't get to visit much and things have changed a lot here, but there's still great people here who I would hate to lose contact on a permanent basis, even the ones that have gotten grumpier with age.

Could you imagine if we took all of the photos and made a AWF calendar!? LOL :D
