Report data on X-Y axis vice straight down? (1 Viewer)

I have a database where I track personnel and qualifications for the Navy. I can generate reports per individual, group, etc..., but I would like to make one version of the report where I can list the personnel down the y-axis and the different quals down the x-axis. Then, in the box where they meet, I can place the status of completion. (sort of a quick snapshot of everyone without all of the minor details). How can I do this?

This is what I'd like:

Qual1 Qual2 Qual3 Qual4...
Name1 X X X
Name2 X X
Name3 X X
Name4 X X
.
.
.

(except turn the "qual" text sideways to save space).
I have field data for all of the names, qual names, and %completion for everyone.

Basically, you need to use a recordset and build the values for each row.

My sample was too general purpose, but it should give you some ideas.
