Is resurrecting old threads a bad thing? Especially if the poster has intelligently found a follow-up question to the exact subject matter at hand?

Yes. If the thread is more than a dozen posts, no one will read the entire thread and so the OP won't get an answer. It is better to start a new thread and include a link.
