how do i cant the number of rows/ records in a table and display it as a number in the report?

In my report I put in a text box, set the Control source to =1, Running Sum set to Yes. This text box will serve as a row number if it is put inside the detail section. If it is put inside a group section it will show the occurance of the group. It applies to the rows in the report only, not in the table. Is this what you are looking for?
