Hello

I hope someone can help. I have successfully set up security on my database which is a muti-user one. However being ultra cautious before I started i made a copy in my personal folder (working on a network) to assign the security. I used the option to create a shortcut but now that I need to relocate the DB.. i can't seem to alter the path of the shortcut.. can anyone help??

Also... I have made changes to the database through my admin login after I set the security. I tried to create a back up but I can't access the back up!!

Thanks in advance

can you not right click the shortcut, select properties, and you will see tqo text boxes the topmost contains the command line to start your app. This can be edited.

Are you locked out of the copy of the db you made before applying security.
If then either you have applied the security to default workgroup file that access uses System.mdw or you are still joined to the newly created workgroup.

Thanks,

I had changed one part of the line but the ref to my personal folder was there twice!! It works perfectly now .. ty

I didn't set a default workgroup file and its the back up i tried to create after I set security I can't get into.

I have access to the .bak file but it was made as I set security and doesn't reflect the changes I have made since setting security.. I can get into the DB through the admin log in and make changes no problem.. I just wanted a back up of the the changes :-(

Thanks again

the backup is only for Access's internal use when running the securirt wizard and IS NOT what I would term a backup. I experimented with the security wizard once but I could not find a way to use the backup to revert back to an unsecured state.

Thanks for your reply.

I have made copies of the database, the security file and the shortcut, using copy paste. I tried to create a backup from the file menu and thats when i hit on problems. It is on a network so the worst case scenario will mean i have to speak nicely to the IT dept ;-)
