Our database is split, and my shortcut has been working just fine for years (going through the program to the .mde and on through the workgroup). But since installing a new hard drive this weekend, the shortcut is broken. The names of all of the files and the drives and etc. are identical to before - I've tried making shortcuts to the pieces (which work by the each) and then putting them all together again to make a 'new' shortcut - nope. I've typed out the exact copy of the old shortcut's breadcrumb trail - nope. The good news is, I can start my computer up using the 'old' hard drive, and can pop up Access just fine. But this is not ideal! Any ideas?

When you say you've installed a new HDD, is this just on the local machine and the location of the BE file still the same as before presumably on some server elsewhere. If so then the .mde should still be connected to the BE .mdb file and I'd check the path in the properties of the shortcut, try navigating to the .mde file using Windows explorer and paste the path into the shortcut and change the 'Start in' folder

Thank you for your reply, David!
Yes, the new hard drive is only on my/local machine. The location of the BE file, workgroup and front end have not changed (the front end was never on my machine). The path of the shortcut is the same - it just doesn't work on the new hard drive (but continues to work on the old one). I'm wondering now if it has something to do with Microsoft's 'safe' locations, or 'permissions' on the new hard drive.?

Solved: Shortcut now works

I opened my machine using the old hard drive, copied the original shortcut (Access/DB secured front end/workgroup) and pasted the shortcut on the Server. I closed the machine, opened with the new hard drive, went to the Server and copied the shortcut (the copy I'd just made) to my now new desk top. And it works!
The property details look IDENTICAL to the one I'd been using before the new hard drive, AND the one I created by making shortcuts to each of the three pieces AND the one I created by typing the path out from scratch. WHY it works is a mystery to me, but this copied shortcut works, so I am a happy camper. There have been so many changes and revisions since I first created this DB in 2007 I'd almost have to re-learn everything to bring ours up to snuff. :)
