I have an Access database which is held in a folder on our network - to access the database a user needs to go in via a shortcut - this is because the database is secure and the shortcut points them to the correct wrkgrp.

Anyway the folder that I have had to place it in makes the pathname too long for the shortcut.

If the shortcut itself is placed in the same folder as the target database and target wrkgrp file, is there anyway to shorten the pathname in the target line of the shortcut?

I'm not a windows expert and my searches for an answer to this were fruit less so........ does anybody know :D

Regards

Hi Numpty

You could try the old msdos longfile name work around

c:\sixtyandone\seventyandone becomes c:\sixtya~1\sevent~1

shorten everthing after the root (c:\)to six characters

It's a million to one shot but it might just work :)

Cheers CJ that worked.

Took a bit of filldling about mind 'cos the MSDOS names were not all ~1 due to similar folder names but works now!!

Once again bailed out by Access World Forums ;)
