I've been scratching my head over this too. Can't you sign up for notification? Here (Canada) we can and even specify the type of recalls you want to be notified of.

Maybe @DakotaRidge wants history of recalls for statistical purposes, and track family members impacted by recalled products?... The links to past recalls might also no longer be available?

Despite this thread being hijacked from why Dakota could no longer post to his two threads, which @Jon solved, @DakotaRidge and I are very interested in examining all possibilities for implementing controls with multiselection capability and store those values in normal child tables. I think these are the most comprehensive discussions I have ever seen regarding Access MVF workarounds.

Someone asked to see the message that AW sends when it blocks a post, here's what I just received when I responded to a reply in another thread. All I did was thank someone for his help. Perhaps he had something in his text. I removed his text, and it worked.

His quoted text contained URL links, and you haven't reached the 100 posts threshold. So it's not going to let you post until the links are removed, or you reach the 100th post mark.

On UA you had to specifically use Reply with Quote I seem to recall?
If you want to post the way you did there, then just start a new post, in the area at the bottom of the thread.

I prefer the way it is done here. You can always delete non pertinent words.

Thanks, Doc_Man. We were 40 posts into a very informative conversation when I got locked out. Others were able to continue posting, but I was the one who started the conversation. I couldn't tell anyone that I was still alive and kicking. I could have passed on and people could have continued teaching me about code and MVFs.

This happened to me twice. The time I was trying to learn about using animation in an Access database. I have seen presentations about using animation, but I am not a master at it. I am sure someone in the community knows a lot more about .Move statements than I do.

I don’t know about others but I think this thread has run its course (and then some). This should have been posted in the Site Suggestions forum. This is similar to the great idea to create a new thread regarding MVFs.

Nightly, three or four "escort sites" and several gambling sites and a few sports book sites. Occasionally, advertising sites of a non-vulgar - but still purely commercial - nature. Bad enough for Jon to decide to implement the rule. He tuned it a couple of times before reaching 100 as the limit, because shorter limits were not very effective. I am sad to say that I started to recognize the sites by their IP addresses and name patterns. Most of the questionable sites were casino or online gaming sites. Some were sports betting sites. Some were escort sites. One particularly distasteful site involved rooster-fighting a.k.a. c.o.c.k-fighting, a truly inhumane way to treat an innocent bird.

2. How effective in preventing spamers on this site has restricting new members from posting links until they reach 100 posts ?

One man's opinion, but very effective. Since I'm one of the moderators who has to clean up after such spam, I claim FRACTIONALLY more of a valid viewpoint than average, but still only one man's viewpoint. Usually, the spam that comes in now is from someone whose account didn't raise any alarm, but their innocuous member name turned out to be related to a business looking for free advertising.

3. Is a maintained list of keywords used for always preventing posts and links?

No. It is "Has a Link" or "Has No Link." No keywords involved.

4. Have any members spammed after reaching 100 posts?

A couple of older accounts appear to have been hacked, leading to mostly "escort site" spam. Otherwise, not very many that I can recall.

5. Are all files scrutinized before being uploaded to this site?

I think there are antiviral scans but otherwise, no. Instead, we have some threads that are locked and require moderator approval - for which the expectation is manual review of the submission. Other non-moderated threads, not so much scrutiny.

6. Have any members been identified as bots?

Again, a narrow viewpoint. I have not personally identified any bots, but the moderators don't usually announce such things - they just whack the account. On the other hand, we generally know spam when we see it and, to be honest, don't CARE whether it was or wasn't a bot. In either case, it becomes history.

Other moderators, feel free to respond to post #94 if the spirit moves you.

Escort sites wow, I guess it was easier to implement the unattended 100 posts rule versus having to manually block each spam site. Does Xenforo, by default, allow adjusting post count thresholds for blocking URL's? Can custom rules be created?

I'm in no hurry to reach 100 posts so I can start posting links. My main reason for posting links is for citing sources when making certain affirmations.

I don't know the technical answers, but there is a more practical answer. Jon would have to buy the Xenforo add-in for each of those abilities - if it exists - and his budget is not that big. The advent of Google's AI, Gemini, puts the squeeze on LOTS of help sites including this one. I understand that Xenforo has lots of add-in options, but none of them are free and Jon really WOULD like to make a profit now and then. He has done a lot for our security issues and has implemented many nice visual abilities, but he has lots of expenses to consider. For example, he has retained technical posts from a couple of decades ago. Contemplate the amount of storage space needed at the hosting site for 20 years worth of posts.
