I thought that wasn't a problem - as the images are hosted elsewhere according to Dan-cat?

I don't know if it's my imagination, but as Tess says, I think he's clogging up the server, it just seems to take an awful lot longer to get through threads these days, since Tim decided to use our forum as posting site for every photograph on the web.

Not every image,

Where am I?

Anybody safe here, if I ever make it back to my controlled corner?

Just because pictures are hosted on other servers, does not mean that the AWF Servers do not have to process them in order to present them to your screen. His posts may not take up a lot of Disk Resources, but I believe that the the Memory and CPU requirements are still there.

Only a problem if you open it - he seems to largely limit himself to one thread, I presume tha paging controls that also.

The message board server only has to process the image tags (which is just a few bytes of text) and render them as HTML <img> tags - the image itself comes straight from the hotlinked server to your browser, so the load on the server is probably no greater than it would be if Tim posted exactly the same rambling nonsense, but replaced the images with text saying: "I was going to post a picture of something spherical here"

He got fed up with all of the anti American sniping and left.

Brian

Where did he say that? He'd better get used to it then. Lets hope he doesn't travel overseas or he'll have to say he's Canadian.

Yep, the additional processing is between the external server and the client.

Yes, I am thankful for that.
Even so, everytime I come and see that darned thread at the top of the queue, I get a pit in my tummy. It's a mild annoyance is all. You are right, he isn't littering everywhere. And if the super huge attachments aren't affecting us, I suppose I can put up with mild annoyance. Unless of course the mods want to make another folder called ramblings and nonsense and store the entire thing there. Nice and.... quarantined.... like the swine flu.

But aren't you describing the Watercooler?
