The deficit is already up and the higher prices are showing up. Where is the upside to this?Never said I did. In fact, I've consistently said I'd like to see how the consequences play out over a 6-12 mo time frame. Probably the smartest thing any of us can say at this point, as we're not sure the exact impact that it can be had, there will be negatives (paying a little more at the store), and positives (paying down the national debt)
President Nixon already conducted this experiment. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagflation. Deficits, monetary expansion and tariffs caused a recession a wage-price spiral. I remember the stagflation decade well.
Yesterday, the Appeals courts also ruled against Trump's illegal tariffs.
