I am a great believer in trying to understand yourself objectively. For this reason, I enjoy taking personality tests for personal insight. Myers Briggs is obviously a well known one, based on Jungian psychology. But there is another which I prefer, which breaks down your personality into 25 different dimensions.

If you feel like taking the test and reporting back here, then I encourage you to do so. It takes 25 minutes. What I recommend before taking the test, is to rate yourself out of 10 for each of the 25 personality dimensions BEFORE taking the test. This way you can get objective insight into where your misperceptions are. If you do it after the test, you will fall fowl to backward rationalisations.

So, my recommended two steps are:
  1. Rate yourself out of 10 on each of the 25 dimensions shown, where 5/10 is average. Here are the dimensions: https://hexaco.org/scaledescriptions
  2. Take the test: https://hexaco.org/hexaco-online
Enjoy!

I started the test, but 100 questions was too much for me. Maybe I'll try it on Sunday.

Doc, do you feel it represents your personality, or are there some of those scores that you think are off base?

I believe the "Honesty" and "Emotionality" are probably OK. Extroversion and Openness are OK. Conscientiousness is also probably fine. But I'm perhaps not so sure about Agreeableness. I though I was more flexible than that, but maybe not. Linda says I can be a bit hard-headed sometimes.

My theme-level results were:
  • Honesty-humility slightly above average
  • Emotionality slightly above average
  • Extraversion way below average
  • Agreeableness slightly below average
  • Conscientiousness - perfectly average
  • Openness to experience - almost perfectly average
I was most content (ie., thought it was accurate and positive), with:
altruism - way above average

I was most disappointed (ie, thought it not accurate OR just disappointed in myself), with:
Diligence (way below average)

My results were...
(Used Doc's template)
Honesty: 4.63/5 - median is 3.22
Emotionality: 2.44/5 - median is 3.34 ***Was worried here for a hot second but after reading it's representative of me
Extraversion: 4.00/5 - median is 3.5
Agreeableness: 3.95/5 - median is 3.00
Conscientiousness: 4.56/5 - median is 3.47
Openness to Experience: 4.75/5 - median is 3.31
Diligence 5.00/5 - median 3.88 (added)
Altruism: 4.50/5 - median is 3.88

All in all it was pretty accurate though some scores seemed a little off like Organization at 3.75. I think I'm a bit more organized handling anywhere from 3 to 6 projects at a time. But then again I am sleep deprived most days so maybe not.
