Unrecognised File Format

Hi,

I created a DB for someone and emailed them it yesterday. Opened fine.

I made some changes today, emailed them and they say they get an Unrecognised File Format error.

Anyone know why?

When I open on my desktop works fine, when I open up on a remote desktop, works fine.

I have repaired it, still doesn't work.

I have re-saved it as a different name, not working.

Anyone got any ideas?

What version of Access did you do the work in and what version of Access do they have? Also, do they have the same service packs and updates that you do?

They sent me the file to do updates. The file was 2007, I have 2010. All updates I did where in 2010.

I sent them the DB yesterday practically finished and have sent them a number of them over the past few weeks. All worked fine.

Yes the changes I have done since yesterday (link a few forms, create a few command buttons, build a few queries) has apparently made the DB stop opening.

If they try to open the older ones I sent, they open fine.

I have opened the finished DB on 3 pcs, all running 2010 mind but none have any problems.

Db is .accdb extension.

What has happened is you ended up doing something which only exists in 2010. A prime example is adding any kind of Theme to a form. Once you do that, it is toast for the earlier version.

Strange as the stuff I have added Im sure is already in the db. Command buttons, subforms etc...

How do I go about finding out what it is?

Would creating a command button with vba code telling it to ask the user do they want to close the database, YES or NO cause it?

It's hard to say. If you want to send it to me, I can take a look and see if I can spot the problem. But it is hard to tell and one reason why it is not a good idea to use 2010 to work on a Db that 2007 will be opening.

One thing I notice.

I did change the Application Title in the Options menu. It was blank and I put say Wills Database.

When I open the DB it says Wills Database at the top.

However, if that Title is left blank, I get the file name, then Database (Access 2007)??

I did put some code in control source of an unbound text field. Do you think this would be it?

Does anyone know what my DB contained out of these restrictions?

Code as a control source should not be a problem per se.

I can open your database in A2007. It just give a warning. I suspect this is simply a property flag added to the database by A2010 rather than an actual test by 2007 or it would say what is illegal.

Turn on the Hidden and System objects in the Nav pane. Open MySysObjects and sort the DateCreated descending. Presumably the recent ones will be the most likely problems.

I just looked at MSysResources. It shows an Office Theme which I don't think is supported in 2007. I have no idea beyond that because I have never used 2010.

How do I know what each one is, does or represents?

I did create a Users application part. Which created a table. I deleted that though. Could this be the issue?

EDIT: That Users AP created 2 forms as well. Only just seen them. Which I have now deleted.

Should this do tha job if thats the problem or do I need to do extra steps to remove completely somewhere?

Instead of beating you head against a wall, why not just make a new shell in 2000 (mdb) and import all of your objects?

But when I edit the db again in 2010, I could possibly add something that wont work in 2007.?
