Does this error occur with Access 2002/2003?

Other Instances of Access Hang When One User Has a Table Locked

Background:
The access db is on a network drive. I ran an update query and need to use the task manager to kill the process. Shouldn't the query timeout...or continue to try the update until the record being edited by someone is released?
Does this run better with access 2002 or 2003?? I read some other threads, seems like 2002 (odd version) is ahead by a nose.

Truly annoying.
I can't update records because another user has one record locked.

Does Access 2002 hang on update queries? Or does it provide at least an error message such as "record not updated due to lock". Even a timeout message is better than using the task manager to kill off these lost queries.

To close out this thread-
Maybe it could help someone out there

The problem was with a novell network parameter limiting the number of locks a user can have. The novell admin increased the number of locks and everything works fine.
