Virtual Reality Headsets - worth the money?

The zombie game is a blast. You set up your room. It scans everything as you look around. You then need to trace a window, a door, and a table in the room. When the game starts your windows are boarded up, there's a computer on the table, and weapons on the floor. Then the zombies come and you have to fight them off, shoot them, hack'em up with a hatchet, etc. There are little leeches hiding in your room and if you look at them they attach to you and you need to tear them off.

Only on the first level so I'll see where it goes from there.

One thing I did notice that's interesting. I found that when in mixed reality there is nothing to induce any kind of motion sickness. Very natural feeling until, of course, there's a zombie at your throat.

Who'd ever thought star treks holodecks were real.

Get the Keeper chrome extension for amazon. Then it will show you if they changed the quest 2 price after Christmas. Gives you a heads up on their pricing strategy. It shows a graph of price against time.

I watched the video I posted a few days back, which is what prompted me to mention it. It looked pretty good the way it turns your surroundings into a classic zombie invasion shoot out. Does it seem kinda real when immersed and is it a bit scary?

I just re-watched it too. Glad I did because I think I'll do my room set up differently. Probably should have read the directions, but that's not in the male DNA.

The room I play in has a door and 7 big windows . I had it set up with just a couple of the back windows next to each other and the door. I want to split those up so they come from 3 different directions.

I don't know if I'd call it scary but it gets exciting when you get swarmed. The hatchet and baseball bat come in handy.

It will be fun tomorrow when my guests arrive. It will be their first foray into mixed reality so I'm looking forward to seeing their reactions.

So I get you like the game then? I don't know how long these things retained their longevity, from a gameplay or interest perspective. Lord only knows what will happen in the future, where you get photorealistic environments whilst wearing a pair of VR RayBans.

So far it's entertaining. It'll lose it's luster after a while.

I can't imagine how much I've spent over the years. A couple different Nintendo consoles, Play Station consoles, Wii, and others. Those game cartridges ran @ $50 each. At least the VR apps have been relatively inexpensive. A $15 game costs about the same as 2 beers at the bar but lasts a lot longer. Makes it easy to justify those impulse buys.

The guys who developed my golf game really hit on a solid business model which I think will keep people playing for a long time. The game comes with a couple free courses. There are 3 modes of gameplay - Novice, Amateur, and Pro, and various wind and green speeds. New courses are add-ons that normally run about $7. There are currently about 16 courses and another to drop any day now. You can still play the courses you don't own by joining a multiplayer game that was set up by someone who does own it. It also has practice areas, a few other games in the clubhouse. I own them all but got some for free for being a beta tester. They have now offered a subscription service for @ $75 a year which allows you to play everything. There are 15 more courses promised in 2024. Rumors that Augusta will be there eventually.

The kicker is that each time they release a new course your playing an entirely new game. All new scenery. You need to learn each new fairway and green. It's impossible to not want to get each new course.

I just saw something this morning that they may be adding a mixed reality putting green so you can practice putting in your living room.

The guys who developed my golf game really hit on a solid business model which I think will keep people playing for a long time.

I think the golf game is analogous to the ping pong game. Some things are more like sports, and although they overlap into games, there is the competitive element. Same with chess. They all have longevity. This contrasts with say the zombie game where you just keep doing the same things until you have managed to complete whatever levels there are. Then it's done.

Not really, I'm trying to combine the setup with getting enough work done not to get fired.

That first mixed-reality view during setup of my laptop and monitors combined with the setup was a bit of a jolt though!

The image quality of the mixed reality surprised me. The quality of the room itself is not so good, but the stuff imposed into it looks nice and crisp and clear.

Do you have your eye on any apps yet?

No, I'm going to try the one they bundled with it later to get my feet wet. I'll likely get Golf+ as @moke123 somehow without my knowledge or consent seems to have triggered an Amazon order for the golf club attachment that will arrive in a few days.

You've got me interested in the table tennis and fitness apps, so one or more of those is in my future.

I would also get Beat Saber. It must be one of the most popular apps for the Quest. It is not a fitness app per se, but it does burn up the calories without you noticing. I've burnt more calories on that app than anything else.
