If I make it past 78, I would probably have "I beat the odds" - because that would mean I had lived longer than either parent.

By my count, 179 letters, at $20 per letter (since you used a simple font)... over $3500 for that inscription. But of course, your family, knowing you, might condense that down to 7 letters and thus save $3300.

I asked my oldest daughter what she would put as my epitaph and her reply got me all choked up - so no help there...

Well, how about - "When the cat sniffed him and puked, we knew we had to bury him."

Or "We buried him. He said he wasn't dead, but you know he could never tell the truth."

I would start from a very practical perspective and say I would like people to put on my tombstone whatever gives them the most peace or satisfies them in some way in case they come back to see it visit it or reflect on it.

And that's the way I treat all aspects related to my death burial funeral etc. Since I won't be there, I shouldn't really care what is or isn't done or said because I'm not there for it to give me any satisfaction or frustration either way. I would rather the people who still are there and might miss me to make all the decisions based on their own way that they wish to perceive or remember me.

I guess I am practical almost to a fault. Get that from my Dad. At that point I'll be restored to my Creator and I doubt I'll have things like funerals on my mind.

Mine will probably be. "Trust me, it's safe".

"Back soon!" - Dalai Lama

[He didn't say that, I made it up.]
