Database in unrecognized format - 2010 to 2007

Hi Guys,

Do any of you guys know why this stuff happens? I still have no answer to it. I can't narrow down the cause of it.

For instance, I have 2 machines, one with 10 and one with 07 on it. I can create an accdb in 2007, open it ONCE in 10, then try opening it in 07 again, and it's immediately corrupt.

My suspicion is that it's related to the new system tables, but I can't get further than that. I know it's not the system log table, because that's not created until an application error actually occurs in a file. Just opening a file would not create an error.

I've seen quite a few instances of what you've described and while I can't tell you why it happens I can say that it is recommended that you do not use a database with 2007 and 2010. I don't know that it is the system tables but if you have any macros at all then it will convert them to the new macro format, and I'm guessing it does that on opening it. If you have macros in the new macro format then going back to 2007 immediately it would have a problem since it can't recognize them.

That's why I said - I don't know why it does it, but it does. There must be something else there which updates when opened but is not readily apparent. Because sometimes you can use them back and forth (but I would not suggest doing so). It would have been better had the Access Team created a 2010 file type instead of trying to reuse the 2007 format and causing this mess.

You were probably asking The_Net_2.0 but my favorite is 2010. I love having intellisense in queries and in macros and the new macro editor and the ease of modifying the existing Ribbons with an actual interface to do so. And I like the ability to programatically deal with the Ribbon with a lot more options than in 2007. And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things.

Ah - well that's not a problem. You can ask that of anyone here. This may not be their favorite site. Some may prefer another one. It is all personal preference and when that is at stake there really is no wrong answer. Of course Jon would hope that this site is the favorite for people but it isn't necessarily going to be.

I know that many people prefer Utter Access over this one. And then there are those who can't stand that site due to the layout, or other reasons, and so come here.

No Ben, it doesn't. The file type is irrelevant here. It's an issue with opening any/all file types in the two versions, in a one way sequence.

they both use vBulletin software, as you can find the info at the bottom of every forum page you look at, both here and there.
