I honestly think Ken meant his initial post to be a light ribbing, although a bit distasteful. It certainly touched a nerve with Col, who of course is devoted and protective of "her indoors" and rightfully so. However, even though Col has admitted in the past to throwing out comments merely to ruffle people's feathers, and then being completely surprised when they take it personally or, in his opinion, responding disproportionately, this seems to be exactly his response. This is absolutely normal. And I have no problem with his initial reaction to Ken's post.

That being said:
This is by far the most disgusting thread I've seen here in all of my years. I can't believe the attacks have grown so personal and insulting. Seriously. My stomach is turned.

God forbid I mispell a word or use improper grammar lest I be named ignorant or somehow a lesser species.

I have to throw my hands up on this one. There is no hope for repairing any relationships here. You know what the really sad thing is? I think that if Ken and Col met at a pub, and struck up a chat, they'd probably get along quite well. The reasons they do not on this forum are simple.

1) Written words can be so misconstrued.
There is fewer chance of misunderstanding people when they are sitting right in front of you. You can see the expression in their face and hear the inflection in their voice when they are right there in person. Less chance of miscommunication

2) It is more difficult to be rude to someone if they are sitting in front of you. The moment we sense we have offended or made someone uncomfortable, we make our apologies and clarify our meaning, or politely steer the conversation to a more agreeable topic. Not so here. Here there are sides to be taken and a brawl to be had.

I'm sorry... but I have to say again that it is disgusting and childish the way this forum has degraded. Horrible. Simply horrible and outrageous. I'm thoroughly disappointed.
