Hi mate - thanks for the welcome!

There is a few, just watch out for the few Aussies that pop up from time to time.

I think you mean 'There are a few. . .'

The word "is" would refer to a single person, as in "There is just one" but I'm guessing you are commenting in the plural as you also use the word "few", which would indicate a reference to >1 person.

Funny, I thought that this was an ACCESS forum, not an English Language forum. I shall certainly have to watch my Ps and Qs with the English Language Gestapo around.

Yeah, but 'a' few is singular, isn't it? - that's the definite article there.
Maybe it should be There are some few.

There's nothing wrong with trying to teach people from the colonies the correct way to speak English.

Bear in mind they are thousands of miles from civilisation so, like Americans, can slip into bad ways grammatically very quickly because they have little contact with the developed world.

Naturally, being from Liverpool (the North), you more than many should understand how difficult it can be to communicate on a sensible level other than the latest fashion in flat caps, or the latest pigeon champion. Still, you could move south if you felt the urge to get away from all that.

Actually, this is the Watercooler.

Note at the top of the screen it says "non Access issues".

Can you indicate where it says the discussion should be about MS Access here?

Col

It also says Access World Forums i.e. an access forum, which is what I said, if you are going to get all pedantic and symantic atleast be completely accurate.

Brian

Me going to like it here - greetings from the colony :D

Just don't let them get you down :D If you get truly bored, you can always join Tim the Crackpot on a journey into the realms of subconscious cubism :D

Hi ouma , who is the "them", provided that you don't take things too seriously or personally, unless it obviously is, then its all ok, I am currently engaged in "discussions" with col in two threads and trying to keep the story tellers on the straight and narrow in another, its fun between helping.

LOL, that was just a figure of speech. There is a lot of teasing goes on here and you're right if you don't take it seriously or personally you're ok. I think most Kiwi's have a good enough sense of humour to live within our community..

I'll just go off and paint a perfect picture of purism in the story thread for you :D ;)

Na, fair call Col', we's at the bottom of the world always like to be taught new things. Like Rugby, Farming, How not to invest every cent (sorry, pence) we own in an Icelandic Hedge Fund.
But there will always be an England, to shine like a beckon of light, hope and knowledge on these dark, but not that cold, pacific nights.

On ya mate. Keep up the good work. :)

I always remember being in the Prince of Wales bar in Aberdeen and a Scotsman asked me if I was an Australian? I said to him "the problem with the Welsh is that they can't tell the different between a New Zealander and an Aussie!"

Apart from nearly getting my head knocked off, I soon understood that one has to be careful of local sensibilities.

Hi Pascal, and welcome. I believe you've met Col. He is a regular here. He likes to make his presence known.

Please, enlighten me. What is a Kiwi?

Howzit

I have been in the UK for 6 or so years and have only been tagged as a kiwi once.

Normally comes in the following order:
  • You're a South African?
  • You're an aussie
  • Finally - you're a kiwi
Please, enlighten me. What is a Kiwi?

Or an alternative

" a flightless bird in NZ that Eats Roots and Leaves"
