My wife is jetting off to New York for 4 days next Friday with her sisters and mother. Anyone got any tips on things to do and see?

I think they are going to see the Empire State Building and the statue of Liberty so far. They are staying at the Edison Hotel, 228 West 47th Street, Between 8th Avenue and Broadway. It looks like Grand Central Station, Times Square and Central Park are all pretty near.

Are there any hidden gems to see? Surprisingly they also want to watch the England v USA World Cup Football match which been played on the Saturday. Any locals know of a good bar to watch the game in?

May be a little cheesey, but I would recommend one of the double decker tourist buses and to sit on top if weather is good. It is a great way to see a lot of the city. The guides usually offer good facts, history, and information. They will also have the opportunity to get off the bus if a particular area really interests them (i.e. Central Park) and then get back on later.
I've also heard night time cruises around the city are beautiful (amazing skyline lights) but have never been on one myself. Hope they have a good time.

Go and see what they strangely call "ground zero" - I heard they were building a mosque on the twin towers site as a memorial.

If they have an interest, a Broadway Play is always a good bet. There are also many good places to eat nearby as well.

If they want to watch the World Cup, the ESPN-Zone might be a good place to go to. The food is acceptable (at best), but they have lots of Television screens available to watch sports on (and they are not all preset to ESPN). One problem there is that it is very popular and seating close to the Television might be an issue.

I guess that's some kind of pitiful attempt at humor. Pathetic even by your moronic standards essex.

Yes, I pinched it from a comedian I saw on telly the other night.

Thanks for info. The night cruise sounds cool. ESPN-Zone looks pretty near. Despite Col's 'jokey' comment 'ground zero' it is a place they all want to visit.

if your wife has $110 bills, tell her to see as many broadway shows as she can. then if she sees a star on the street afterwards, tell her to ask how they like the broadway life. it you want a good story, that's a good way to get one

We did that and it was a GREAT way to see as much as you can. I would even suggest doing the 2 day option since, as Mitchem said, you can hop on / hop off as much as you want. But you can't see everything you want in a single day trip. Definitely worth the time and tiny bit of money they charge.

I hope to find myself back again some day as I missed strolling through Central Park.
