Devices that collect information on you

i DO have one of those kind of signs on the front sisde of my house , as it's meticulously curated with a shaped artificial turf and pavers, but maybe I need to put one on the 'problem side' of the house as a 1st step, so at least they realize someone is noticing and not liking.

Now it's Ice just waiting for you to speak spanish.

Uh-oh. Sad but true. I am 100% against the tactics ICE is using. The unconstitutional searches/detentions, the time & place of arrests, the physical abuse .Oh sh*t, I started talking politics again. Sorry everyone! Back to work for me now

Don't get me started about people who own pitbulls, as I have some unpleasant things to say.

First, if you're reading this and you own a pitbull, it's likely this post will offend you though I hope it doesn't - you might be the exception to the rule, you might be a perfectly normal, dignified, responsible person who just happens to love pitbulls for some reason and you conduct yourself in a perfectly responsible way.

But for the most part, you can take the pitbull out of the ghetto but you can't take the ghetto out of the pitbull. 99.9% of pitbull owners are irresponsible, low people who (rightfully) assess their dog as a dangerous weapon that's satisfying to know one owns. Tragic accidents involving pitbulls or pitbull-adjacent dogs are real, and terrifying, and inevitably accompanied by the galling-ly stupid comment from the owner "But he had never done anything like that before!" [as they pick up the pieces of what's left of grandma].

If there was a weapon that could run around the neighborhood firing shots by itself, I would not own or let that weapon loose. Apply the same logic to dogs - don't be stupid and own something that's essentially an auto-firing weapon that can hurt people.

And the main thing? do NOT be offended when your pitbull approaches me and, having no other recourse, I pepper spray it, because I have before and would again if needed. do not yell "He's friendly". I don't care how friendly he is. If he looks like he's about to make contact wiht me and it's a strong dog I don't personally know, it's getting engaged.

The only dog that ever bit me was a poodle. 🐩
we had a really bad experience once when my son was about 5. (he's very slight built). we were near the pool in our subdivision and a very large dog was loose running around. its owner was sitting on the pool chairs. the dog began to chase my son. the guy just sat there laughing but my son was visible distraught - extremely terrified. i started running after the dog and eventually distracted it from my son. but the way the guy was just laughing while my son was terrified really rubbed me the wrong way. i told the guy what i thought of him and watched as he walked hom with his dog. then i called the cops, as having your dog off the leash is illegal, and that kind of behavior is quite disorderly and weird. they said they'd talk to him, which satisifed me at least.

since that day, i don't usually go for a walk at all without either my pepper spray (but that can backfire on you in wind), or my preferred weapon: A solid metal expandable baton, which looks like nothing but a 8 in . piece of bronzed metal, and I've mounted a tennis ball on the end of it. so it looks like someething innocent, oh he must have some toy to play wiht the dog or whatever - but no - i whip off the tennis ball, and it becomes a 3 foot baton. Now I'd be perfectly happy to face a pitbull any day with that! one thwack to the head he'd be a goner.

I have had to pepper spray dogs twice. this was back in that same neighborhood, lots of young couples, young and stupid, lots of dogs wandering around free.

I don't know what's so complicated about it. You get a dog, you go to walmart and buy a leash and maybe a harness, you keep the dog on the leash while you're out walking. Nobody else wants to experiment with how friendly your dog is or isn't at the precise moment in time w hen the dog comes into contact with you - and nobody should be forced to go through that moment unknown to them if they're getting bitten.

Years ago when I worked insurance I went to take a statement from a dog owner who swore up and down that his dog was gentle and never bit anyone. As we were walking up his front steps the little bastard dog bit me in the ass.

My neighbor has a cattle prod that's disguised as a walking cane. I have heard the cracking sound inside my home when he activates the prod. It's blue white arcs are terrifying.
That's crazy! wow. but you have to have something these days, the world is too wild. I've sometimes thought it might be kind of neat to carry a handgun with me, but then I think better of it. And actually the biggest reason is practical - where in the would would I PUT it? there's just no perfect solution, and I wouldn't want to be one of those idiots that carry it openly, it would have to be fully concealed - so as not to have any negative impact on anyone or anything unless necessary

that's crazy lol

As to pit bulls, those animals are just like any other animal, INCLUDING the human animal. You treat them with love, attention, and physical care when they are young and they will be gentle. If you train them to be aggressive, guess what? ...They will be aggressive. Long before I met my wife, I dated a lovely lady who had a pit bull. Biggest candy-arsed dog you ever saw. Scratch him behind his ears and you made a friend for life.

My tennis-playing crowd brought all sorts of dogs with them at different times. The biggest was a great Dane named Caesar. He should have had a sign on him: Have tongue, will slobber. Only once did Caesar ever get in trouble, because a 4-year-old girl thought being licked was his way of deciding whether she would taste good. Which, in a way, suggests HER attitude and approach to food. But I digress.

Personally, I think the subject of guns / gun ownership / gun carrying has the potential to become a volatile subject going by past experience. Therefore I recommend that in the current climate of forum regulations, the whole subject should be avoided in order to protect AWF and Jon.

I agree, running with scissors should be avoided also.

The moderator staff will be watching for things to get heated. Any topic that doesn't get insulting and / or heavily argued should still be fair content, with a few morality-related exceptions. We already know that the Middle East is a good bet to heat up, so that topic will be subject to increased scrutiny and is advised as an unwise topic. Divisive politics in general are probably at least suspect. Along those lines, because of differences between laws in the UK and the USA, gun-related topics might also be divisive. Therefore, Col, in the abstract I agree with the potential for heated arguments on the "guns" topic. Unfortunately, an absolute ban would be harder to manage than just strongly suggesting that it is a dangerous topic.

I agree, I have no intention nor did I have any intention of talking about guns in a political sense.

LOL we shifted the conversation from devices that collect info to catching dogs pooping on our turf, pitbulls, pepper spray, guns, cattle prods ...

All those weapons can have legal consequences if used.
I'm picturing a turd-shooter.
Oh dear ,don't give T. any ideas for his truth social meme posts

OK, I'll shut up then. Just trying to help.

Please don't take my comment as an admonition of any kind. It was a simple statement. After the "Pat" incident, we are all trying to keep a lid on things, on a higher level of alertness. And to have to do so is a pain in the toches - but what do you do with the situation being what it is now?

"The moderator staff will be watching for things to get heated." My observations are insignificant.

I worked for Montgomery Wards as a delivery driver in the 80s. Not only did I get bit several times but was surrounded by a small pack on a remote piece of land. The deliveries must go on!
