Look I think Les is a genius but he could put some people off. If you are not a fan of Tom Cruise's acting, you will be after that. Or just totally appalled. But I am feeling a little more mellow now. I need to tone it down and get in touch with my inner Dude. I still think it is funny that you and @NauticalGent thought that was my real image. Even funnier he said if that was me I would not post my picture. I am sure some young folks will assume I am the Lebowski.

Wow, beautiful bike. I am jealous. I just have to many other hobbies to waste my time and money on. But that has got me thinking. Thanks.
Thanks. Indian is really making a comeback and giving Harley a run for their money. Every H.D. Owner I talk to wants one.

I am sure some young folks will assume I am the Lebowski.
Dude. You mean your not? 😲

i seriously doubt it Maj. a lot of young people are obsessed with that movie, thus they know who the read DUDE is.

@moke123
The bad news is once you Goggle something you get blasted with it. So now my web searches are filled with Indian stuff. The good news it replaced my adds for erectile dysfunction, Russian brides, over 50 local women, and weight loss plans.

"Erectile dysfunction" and either "Russian brides" or "50 local women" taken together might be an inconvenient thing.

Actually, if you are up on Chinese ideography, "50 local women" at once is a catastrophe waiting to happen based on the ideograph for "trouble" - two women under one roof. (That's literally what it depicts. Not kidding.) So... 50 under one roof? Youch!

Wow. What a player you are sir!

No that is just what happens once you get old. Google knows your demographic. In a couple of years your in box and pop up adds will be full a viagra and the ones I posted. But you are correct, as written that post would seem as I had been searching those previously. I can confirm, not the case.

so what should I expect right now as a 39 year old? One of the things I DO is speak to my phone when I'm texting. and now I've even realized, since Jon's software works so well on mobile devices, that I can speak these posts of mine 500% faster than I can type them out. This post was spoken on a phone, not written.

on a side note Maj, did you see that thread started by me regarding acquiring a VPN so I could mask my IP address and get into the wordpress.org forum? Well I visited www.pureVPN.com one time and only loaded 1 page, the homepage of their domain, and within 30 minutes pureVPN advertisements showed up in my facebook newsfeed. No offense to the corporate world, but that's really pathetic. It seems as though they are getting desperate for revenue....??

Again you fail to make the connection to the parable of the sower and the seeds. They have cast their seeds on various grounds (democraphically different groups) and will sow whatever bounty grows from that act. Particularly with digital advertising, it is SO cheap in a relative sense that they might as well send it out there. Like a fisherman in a new area, who has no idea what is biting but will drop a baited or lured line just to see if he can get a nibble or two.

you won't get an argument from me on that one Richard. However, my point was rather not about the inexpensive nature of doing it, but rather what will happen to them when the 3rd world countries that they are currently selling to finally gain the knowledge that intelligent Americans now have, and that simply being that many corporate products are not needed for every day life. So if that point is ever reached and the current corporate desire for specific levels of quarterly profit continue, 1 of 2 things is inevitable:

1) they will automate lower level employees out of their jobs to save costs for the purpose of boosting profits, OR:
2) they will accept the fact that billions of dollars in revenue is not needed in order to make a decent profit and will adjust their records/books/investments accordingly.

doesn't that make sense to you Richard? Personally I doubt #2 will ever happen, simply because places like china, india and africa are so happy now that they have an ability to make huge amounts of money of their country's consumer based that they'll probably never stop until they become truly unsustainable in terms of being able to feed their own people. Then, oh God help us, dare I say they will blame other people for it? I guess if they DO, if anyone would be to blame it would be American capitalists that convinced them it was such a great system to adopt..... =(

Adam, I think you are overthinking things. Too much of it will make you a non-believer. Take a more simplistic approach to things and your faith will remain strong.

YES SIR. ;)

2) they will accept the fact that billions of dollars in revenue is not needed in order to make a decent profit and will adjust their records/books/investments accordingly.

False statement. Billions of dollars of revenue may very well be needed to make a decent profit, or any profit at all, depending on the way you have to divvy up the pie. To build a company's infrastructure you need a building and equipment. You might need literally hundreds of workers depending on what you do. Then there are ancillary support services. (E.g. a contract for delivery with FedEx, UPS, WorldWide, or SOMEBODY just to name one possible ancillary service). Then there are such things that if we export the USA model, we also export the idea of benefits. You start spreading around a billion dollars and you might suddenly find that in a truly level playing field, it doesn't go that far. That's one of the quarrels we have right now regarding trade with China. They manipulate their own currency to undercut the value of our trade contracts.

You bemoan the fact of people overthinking things. Your problem is that you badly severely egregiously underthink things. You show NO COMPREHENSION of the workings of big business. The issues of something simple, like a value-added tax would, upon contemplation, show you how compound interest through just a few layers of manufacturing will make costs jump like crazy. Since there is no such thing as a free lunch, those costs HAVE to be paid (or someone down the line WON'T be paid and will starve.)

I understand richard. Very nice post and there is quite a bit of wisdom from your years in it. But let us not forget that oh so familiar phrase in the world of faith when 2 typical human beings delve into a discussion:
let us agree to disagree
I think u and I will have to accept that on just a few minor points. Oh well....no harm done.

1) they will automate lower level employees out of their jobs to save costs for the purpose of boosting profits

While we are at it, that automation might well have been needed, not to BOOST profits... but to make any at all. The biggest cost driver in most businesses IS the people it takes to keep the business running. As salaries and benefits become more expensive through inflation, the incredible overhead required to make a profit skyrockets. But this is nothing new. The government and many private companies commonly sub-contract parts of their business for fixed-price or fixed-margin contracts for which the contractee assumes the cost and risk of personnel management. I've gone through 28 1/2 years and not less than 7 different companies under that model of doing business. I said "not less than 7" because I don't know whether to count a company name change and merger as one or two different employers.

hey Richard,

have you noticed that you and I arguing back and forth is very similar to the way Peter and Paul argued constantly over the faith after Christ was lifted into the heavens upon resurrection? Our arguments about this stupid $hit are just about as pointless as those 2 guys arguing over what was supposed to be common sense spoken by the king during his earthly life. Perhaps we will end up best of friends? Or would that offend you to the highest degree? Jon seems to think the former is an inevitability. What do you think, mr. engineering genius? :)

When WHO was lifted where? Oh, yes, of course... a non-existent mythological being lifted to a non-existent mythological place... got it. Or did you forget my position on this matter?

And as for us arguing about this "stupid $hit" as you call it, you were the one who based an entire argument on a total misunderstanding of how things work. If you don't want someone to pounce and stomp all over your arguments, either learn to make them based closer to fact or stop posting. Just a suggestion, really. It is of course your choice.

I am not the only one here who as tromped all over your posts. You made MajP laugh at least a couple of times that I can recall. Others have either given up completely and blocked you or they just stand by to correct you as needed. In the meantime, for everyone else out here, I try to be a nice guy. You, however, bring out the worst in me. I think I know why but that would be a little TOO much psychoanalysis.

As to us ever being friends? Jon has his opinion and it is his to have. You have your opinion and it is yours to have. I have my opinion and it is mine to have. But the opinions don't have to be the same because we are all different. As my distant French cousins would say, Vive le difference!

can't we celebrate in the differences then? what would be wrong with that?
