Question AS400 linked to Access - Number Issue

I have linked a "table" from AS400 via ODBC, however when I view the table in Access one field with a list of numbers develops a small issue

numbers such as

3880470 are fine however

4242002557649 appears as 02557649E+12

how do I resolve this,

NB: Using Access 97 on XP Machines ( I know but they refuse to let us upgrade, only had XP for a few months they were making us use Windows 2000 before that)

I agree with Brian.. strange.

What are you doing with the number. Is it a code of some sort or do you actually use it in some arithmetic?

i presume the number storage on the as400 allows for bigger numbers than access

access longs are 4 bit (2billion max, approx)

excel can cope with bigger numbers, and you get an overflow error if you try to use them in access. probably the same thing here - 6 or 8 bit longs.

difficult to overcome, i suspect

Cheers guys, managed to get it working by importing the table then copying it to a new table with a text field instead. just need to automate it rather than do it by hand
