When the government of the day realizes an injustice has been committed in the past, they should apologize and do what they can to make ammends.
Just like adults are supposed to do.
In 1941 and 1942 the governments of the US and Canada deported thousands of Japanese from the Pacific coastal regions on the grounds that they were a security risk. Most were citizens of their adopted countries. Many were born there. Some were decorated veterans of WWI. They still had to go. Their property was sold off at fire sale prices to the salivating white citizens.
In the 1980's Canada (finally) apologized and made miniscule compensation to the survivors. It wasn't much but it was somthing. It was no doubt assited by the fact the Japanese Canadians were deported by a Liberal government and the apology was made by a Conservative government.
Japanese Americans are still waiting.

Subtle difference. The POWs were not Japanese citizens.

I'd be thankful for the freedom I now have and not waste what time I have left crying for a superficial few words from someone that wasn't directly responsible in the first place -

Rubbish, it's made token remarks, not much more and thanks to the Yanks wanting the Japs on board against the evil communists, ex pows never recieved anything worthwhile as recompense for their captivity

Without resorting to the difference in conditions, please remind me...how much did the Allied governments pay the German, Italian and Japanese POWs.
It seems to have slipped my mind.
They may have only been token remarks, but at least they were made.
The Japanese apologies I am referring to were made in the 1970's.
Don't forget the Allies decided at the end of WWII that ALL German soldiers sailors and airmen would have to do 2 years in a POW camp even though when Germany surrendered they technically became civilians.

They might be happy with that if all of you land grabbers would push off and leave them in peace. They did not ask for the europeans to spoil a way of life they were happy with.
