Bash Ken thread

Why do you presume that? :)

As a woman I consider it my job to make assumptions :D

Plenty of people have a problem with fishing for exactly those reasons, it's just not as contentious as hunting, possibly because fishermen/women don't tend to think they're particularly tough because they do it (and I've never heard one boast about how they catch a fish with each cast in the same way that you'll hear hunters bragging about what an excellent shot they consider themselves to be).

I have actually heard fishermen discuss the chase and how they had to fight to pull their catch on board.

The reason I think many hunters boast about being such good shots is that they are proud that they are not inflicting unnecessary pain, an accurate shot is a quick and, we are led to believe, relatively painless death for the animal. No hunter wants to see their prey die a slow and painful death unnecessarily.

Farmers who have had chickens slaughtered by a fox might dispute this.

As to Ken's hunting this has been discussed several times in the past, noticeably after I called all hunters for fun perverts, however Ken hunts by license as part of game control, and does indeed eat the kill, or so we have been told.

Brian

I had heard that a fox will only leave its kill if it's disturbed and that's why farmers used to think they killed for fun. I could be wrong on that count though.

As for a cat and mouse that seems like a fair enough statement, although I like to think that my cat is just too dumb to realise it can't play that rough with its little friends. :o

How come theres nothing from the great man hisself on this thread? Why does he leave his blood thirsty cohorts to fight his battles?

Animals don't kill for fun, so if somebody thinks it's fun to kill just for kicks sure, let them see how it feels.

And why not? Let them know what its like to be on the other side.
Sounds like you get some sort of perverted thrill from imagining other people's suffering. So that makes you even worse than them in my book.

Thats a shame i was real worried about what you think of me.

I hadn't noticed any bloodthirsty comments , who are these cohorts and which post?

This one is pretty graphic
"Presumably nobody has any complaints about me sticking a hook through a fishes little face, dragging it from it's natural environment and watching it gasp for breath while I find a stone or something to bash it's little brains in with "
(obviously from a bloodthirsty nation) :p

I don't think Ken has been on today so he probably hasn't seen your post yet. I am sure he will treat it with the seriousness it deserves:rolleyes:

Remember he lives in the US so it is a bit earlier there than in Europe.

Every story paints a picture :D

Alane,

I am a better target than Ken.

A keen Australian shooter such a myself will shoot more animals in one week than an American like Ken would shoot in a life time.

One of the things that amuses me is the pet lover who complains about roo shooters then goes to the supermarket to buy tins of pet food which comes from, guess where?:D

But even better is the do gooders killing the fur trade. There use to be about 500,000 foxes shot a year in Australia, a lot of by shooters using the money from the furs to pay for the trip as well a pro shooters. No longer worth it as the furs are not worth the dollars. However, the foxes still need to be killed so it is now 1080 poison. Have you ever seen animal that has taken 1080 or an animal that eats animal that has taken 1080.

People go to Africa to take pictures and say "how could some shoot them?' But unless those animals have a commercial value the farmer shoots them on sight. But the tropy hunter pays the big dollars so the wild animal is worth far more than any livestock, and then the people can photograph them.

How many people will pay $7000 to photograph a cape buffalo on top of $300-$1000 in daily rates. Don't and won't happen.

OK, so you might say no one should eat meat. Let's assume that happens tomorrow. The first thing that would happen is all live stock would be shot to make room for the extra crop required which in turn would mean a lot more wild animals would need to be shot.

PETA = People Eating Tasty Animals:D

Curious how many new posters seem to take an instant dislike to Ken.
First JamesLast, now Alane. Wonder what it is that causes such rapid antipathy?

A more cynical person than myself might think that it's almost as if people are creating user names solely for the purpose of taking a pop at him.

Funny how we read things differently, I took that as sarcasm, as Ouma was highlighting how people condemn hunters but not anglers.

Bravo Mike!

I don't think anyone actually enjoys killing - except real psychos, in which case, can they really be held accountable and would they discriminate?

I sympathise with vegetarians, having lived most of my life that way and there's no telling when the "fad" will hit me again, but they too must realise that man is made to hunt and gather and to eat both meat and vegetables, we also have freedom of choice and, as long as it's not against the law, why should we be made to feel bad about what nature prompts us to do?

It may well be that many don't agree with our use of weapons to hunt, but as far back as the stone age we found it was necessary to use tools for this purpose, and, human nature being what it is, the tools just got more sophisticated.

Lol, do you think this is possible? :D

Sorry, should have written 'this is a joke' after it.
I had assumed the pokey-out tongue face was enough.

Ah! I misunderstood the pokey out tongue, still my response applies to Alane's later post.

BTW Mike your argument is good, no sarcasm here. I may think that those who hunt for fun are perverted, but the perverts are sometimes needed, whether chasing foxes, shooting Grouse or pheasant or as per your examples.
