You look like that singer woman from Britain.

and just about as crazy as, mister thin-air!

(edit: that's refering to thales' avatar, or rather, lack of one)

The big fuss is being made simply because the Mayan calendar ends on december 21st 2012, and that Nostrodamus predicted around this date that something would happen and that the egyptions have this date in their calendar as a time of world change...

Spooky or simply a coincidence?

I personally would like to think that it is a load of Bollo*cks, in fact I hope that it is, as my two children would only be 9 & 10 respectively and would have hardly had time to live...

Perhaps the Mayans, simply couldn't be arsed any more to keep a calendar uptodate, after all who the hell was gonna use it...

Nostrodamus was obviously so stoned that he would probably wrote anything, and probably wrote most of the Lyrics for the Beatles Sgt Peppers period..

The egyptions were probably too concerned about incestual sex to even know what time it was let alone the future...

But hey, only time will tell.....

The thing that amazes me is how these old civilisations knew what calendar we would be using in 2012 , spooky or what.

Don't worry about it. There are many mysteries left in the world, but a secret date when the world will suddenly end isn't one of them.

Not really spooky.

I taught my daughter multiplication at age 4. There have many mathematicians in history.

We tend to discount ancient intellect because we assume that collective knowledge built over centuries makes us more intelligent. It does make us appear smarter, because we are not locked in to making the same erroneous assumption that our predecessors made.
There have always been Newtons, Pythagoreans, and Einsteins.

Nice - but whats that got to do with it?

Actually they didnt, they had their own calander which was re-calculated to fit our's

They actually made a mistake in recalcing it and put this date somewhere 2010 ....

Thank you for answering that for me.

Since some people have decided to take my comment seriously are they telling me that the ancients predicted a date based on the alignment of the heavenly bodies and that we have translated this to this date in 2012, further are we saying that this is the only time in the life of the universe that this will happen.

I never take you seriuosly.

just when i thought i'd heard it all.

and how long does it take you to get to work? 30 mins? 1 hour? why don't YOU move closer to work, seeing as you'd be doing it every day (i'm making some assumptions here, i know, but hey, weren't you also?)

When I was working, I did move to within a 10 minute ride.

(edit: i'm pretty sure the wafer thin kid isn't complaining about walking 5 miles a day - it's the people who know life can be better for them that are advocating for equality, hygiene, food and shelter for people like Wafer).

Ok, if the kid is happy to do it let him/her get on with it. It's like child sweat shops. The kids do it for the money for their family, and a very nice job they make of it - little fingers = little stiches. It's better than child prostitution (but not as lucrative)
