How about that DOW?

I understood that banks fail every year (at least in the US). They are always gobbled up by a bigger bank.

This year, the number of failures (in the US) has been unusually high.

This whole fiasco has got me thinking about the world in general - now that capitalism is collapsing in a screaming heap & communism failed miserably also, where is the next socially equitable political / economic system going to come from?

I see or hear very little indication of a new Marx or ?? (who did invent capitalism?) on the horizon giving much thought to a new world order that actually corrects mistakes of the past.

Currently, it seems the benign dictator approach seems the most successful, but always the danger of making sure your dictator is benign.

Subject: Japanese Credit Crunch

I've just read that uncertainty has now hit the Japanese banking
sector:

In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded.

Sumo Bank has gone belly up.

Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches.

Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and
will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank
were suspended after they nose-dived.

Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks,

Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in
the black.

Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts
report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where
it is feared that staff may get a raw deal!

Hmmm with the news from the last couple of days is it now time to start buying shares. Not in financial sector but lots of other sectors have taken a hit because of the scare.

There are I think some shares that have solid backing and appear cheap at the moment. Not looking at quick return.. say 3-5 years

Maybe we should actually try true capitalism without the crushing weight of governement regulation/taxation. It's likely that America is headed for European style socialism, though.

I've been thinking the same thing.... When is it time to jump back in?
I was about ready, but then I heard our CFO say yesterday that the American market may still shed a few 1000 more points. I think I'll hold out until after the election.

Why so sad, socialism has served us well since the end of WW2.
Just what exactly are the Yanks so scared of?

I don't like oppresive taxes.
I don't want the government doing anything for me that I can do myself.
I don't owe anything to my neighbors. They should be on their own.

Even the cavemen understood that we survive as a community or a species, not as individuals. The cult of individualism is ridiculous on its face if you know ANYTHING about evolution and/or world history.

We do have a responsibility to our neighbors and fellow community members. I believe that redneckgeek was saying he doesn't want to be forced by his government to support his neighbors through taxation.

The bad thing is that the community does a terrible job taking care of unfortunates. That has forced government to step in and do that job. It's a shame, really.

He said:
I don't owe anything to my neighbors. They should be on their own.

Doesn't sound like he thinks he has any responsibility in his community to me.

Well, I certainly don't want to put words in his mouth, but that's what I would have meant had I said the same thing.

I agree with redneckgeek

Although he just does not like oppresive taxes. There should be no tax.

And before someone brings up tax and the military bear in mind that bin Laden with a small team did more than the Japanese military could do at Pearl Harbour. If any country had tried to attack America with their military they would have been shot down or sunk.

george read my words the way I intended.

I don't like the government taking my money and giving it to my neighbors.
Where in the constitution does it say I'm required to do that.

That's not to say that I won't do anything for my fellow man of my own free will. I am a charitable person, and I do what I can to help those less fortunate than me. At least that way, I get to choose who I help. And I can withold help from those I feel are undeserving.
