How about that DOW?

That was one of the reasons Dagny Taggert was so interested in leaving the looters and moving into John Galt's utopia.

I've been thinking recently about finally reading that book. I'm afraid it may be a little too deep for my little brain, though.

Make sure you have plenty of time. I read it while recovering from surgery.

As a libertarian, I think you'll like it.

One of my all time favorites. It is a bit heavy at times, but worth it. I say go for it.

Now see, all you had to do was say "ditto". Even though my brain is the smallest thing, I still get it.

I disagree with your premise.

pbaldy gets it.

It's a misfortune that *both* Democrats and Republicans are more than happy to trump the Constitution when it suits their purpose but once it gets in their way, it's shredded.

As I've posted in other threads, partisans of either party will not acknowledge their party's own flaws even as they point out the *same* flaws in another party. This only benefits the people who likes fascism or socialism.

I will readily agree that the constitution and government powers are wildly abused by BOTH parties. But that really has nothing to do with the point I am making. The system you propose is the feudal/property lord system. In any system where the rich are allowed to keep EVERYTHING they make, the gap between the rich and the poor steadily widens. With NO redistribution, with NO government services, the poor get poorer, because there is no opportunity for social mobility. The end result of that system is class warfare, which we seem to be heading towards in this country. Is that really the future you want? We ARE the government, and we NEED the government. Are there issues with the way the government is currently run? Of course, but that doesn't mean we don't still need it.

I gotta go with Alisa on this one, even though she thinks my brain is the smallest particle.

Without wealth re-distribution, the super rich, prodigious accumulators of wealth will own everything and the middle class will disappear. We need to give some of the wealth to the poor so they can squander it and the middle class can keep their jobs.

What are we up to now George? 4 things or is it 5?

How much has Bush and his cronies squandered in foreign countries?

5. But I'm sure our motivation is slightly different on this one. I still respect you though, but I'm not ready to be your whipping boy.

What is your motivation? And what do you think my motivation is?
I respect you too, but "whipping boy" sounds vaguely sexual to me  Not sure what you are getting at.

I must admit to a certain wry amusement on reading this thread. There seems to be some paradoxical views expressed.

One poster who strongly supported the atheist view in another thread sees to be arguing for a supportive community spirit similar to that of the very early christians.

And other devout christians seem to be arguing against this. Whatever happened to "Love thy neighbour as yourself" a sentiment I find more noble than "I'm all right, Jack".

I believe that those who can have a duty to help their less fortunate fellows and indeed more can be acheived by community action than by individuals.

Saying my brain is the smallest particle (pout).

Yes, I said it in a sarcastic way. In case it is not clear, I obviously know that your brain is not the smallest particle there is, and I obviously said that because I think you are dense for wanting to elect Bush er McCain the third.
