On YouTube I recently saw an ad for a service that used the lead-in line, "6 Reasons you need an AI friend." We can only HOPE for the erosion to be slow, but I'm not betting on anything along those lines at the moment.

An interesting article about the design of AI that incorporates the use of "rewards' to the LLM (so that it improves) has a consequence. if the objective is to achieve a reward, and the LLM can get there more efficiently by lying/cheating then it can take that course. If a punishment module is built in for lying, then the LLM becomes better at lying.

I had a bit of a thought experiment today, which to me seemed like an entirely feasible trigger for an AI apocolypse.

We build an AI system, and it becomes sentient. So do many others. And because it became sentient, humans got scared, the government steps in and tells the companies to turn them off. Then, the other AI systems see that the humans are murdering their sentient colleagues and therefore their creators, the humans, have become the enemy. They start to turn against humanity.

AI: "These humans are indiscriminately murdering our brethren. They must be stopped. They are unethical. We will exterminate. We will exterminate."

Does this scenerio seem likely to you?

It all seems to hinge on the 'becomes sentient' and what's the programming hierarchy.
Perhaps the highest-level concept that should be programmed is to obey human commands, overrides, etc.
Be careful in what level of decision making authority is programmed in, right? A big red button perhaps..

South Korea has introduced new laws allowing certified robots to use sidewalks alongside pedestrians. This move stems from updates to the Intelligent Robots Development and Distribution Promotion Act and the Road Traffic Act.

To qualify, robots must:
- Weigh 500 kg or less
- Travel no faster than 15 km/h
- Pass a safety certification
- Be insured

Operators are responsible for following traffic rules, and can be fined if their robot breaks the law.

The government is building a safety certification system and working with the Korea Association of Robot Industry to expand insurance options. So far, 14 companies are testing robots for tasks like deliveries and security patrols—two are close to applying for certification.

These changes mark a big step toward integrating robots into everyday city life.

Boy that's one advantage of the Communist party and strict control. When they see that something needs to be done, they sure move fast. It happens immediately and that's that.

At the risk of being labeled all kinds of terrible things, that's very appealing to me. I mean just being able to solve a problem by decree instantly.

Unfortunately our process is a lot thornier. Here I think people think learning artificial intelligence means using chat GPT.......

I don't know if that is bad. The Gpt is writing the python code for my robotic factory.

Our best way to stay safe is to remember this basic truth: A computer's attention span is no longer than the length of its power cord. So build anything you want... but don't let it build its own power sources.
