I consider myself a regular in this forum - a regular "questioner" but as I get confident and learn a little more I am sure I can give back.

As I am a learner I use Google way too much. It has annoyed me for well over 6 months now that Experts Exchange forum was coming up in the google results. I was guessing that it had the answer to my question but as you all know you have to pay to see anything past the question.

After 6 months of this I thought I would give it a go and get a 7 day trial.

Here is my opinion.

You get a nice welcome email from a sales man.
Their search engine works about the same as this one
I did not think that the answers (the threads) were any better than other forums
I did feel that some of the off topic stuff that comes up in free forums threads were not there.

ASKING A QUESTION
So when asking a questions you have a general form to fill out and then you have to specify to which group and topic your question belongs. You then get a message that it should take 49 minutes for the first response.
I waited.
After some hours you get emails like this ( at least two)
An alert has been sent to experts who work in the zones assigned to your question.
Your question has been locked in the question queue where it will remain until an expert comment is posted.
I think (well at least i did it) you can ask a question why your question was not answered.
I got a response that it was being given a high priority and had been given to an expert to answer.
Then you get an email that they have reorganised your selected topics and made more experts aware of your question.
After 7 days (my trial) i had asked 3 questions and did not even get a response asking for more information, or telling me the questions was stupid,... I got nothing.

Of course I can get nothing in a free forum and I sometimes do. But I asked three different questions just in case one of them was stupid. They all had to do with HTML and the DOM.

I then sent a little email to the sales man (remember above I got a nice email from him) I told him I was unhappy with the forum and did not see any point in paying to be a member.

He sent and email. And he cancelled my membership.

SUBJECTIVE THINGS
All the emails are system automated and mean nothing
the nice little sales man's email and the response was a proforma email.
It attempts to differentiate itself from a free forum with these system automated guff but I saw no reason to pay for these emails and useless information.

I did not extend my membership past the 7 days.

Um, and I scrolled the way down.

We forgive you. :p

Experts Exchange shows you the answers if you scroll down the page to the bottom...

not me it doesn't. Nor did it. Ive got empty replies and an advert to sign up for 7 days. Could it be country based?

What we're saying is that you *don't* even need to sign up. Just scroll all way down.

No, scroll down more. All the way down to the bottom and lo! the answers are there in plaintext.

(If they never show the answer at the bottom, how else would they get good Google ranking? ;) )

WOW - I was getting automated emails before that were useless and soliciting me to pay for worthless products... I believe they were called SPAM

Afaik you have to be using Firefox to see the answers at the bottom of the page - but then I always use firefox so not sure!

That's not accurate. I'm pretty sure you can use it with any browsers, in fact.

I can see the answers in IE . . .
I always wondered how they could get people to pay for something that is free . . . now I know.

I can see the answers in IE, that's all I use at work...

Ahh ok someone once told me many moons ago it was just FF...seems a bit odd that they charge but then I guess its for the right to ask the question. But then if they don't get answered what's the point hehehe
