might be an interesting read - I hope that Aziz is Islamic , as it would be nice to hear from the other side of the fence (so to speak)

I have a little knowledge on this - but not enough to make any valid comments (bascially just the stuff from the telly, and other bits and bods I have just picked up from talking to people).

GaryPanic, Yes I am a Muslim but it was about 30 years ago that I really started studying Islam when I was attending university as an undergraduate. I used to spend my lunch time in discussion with mostly Christians and a few Muslims trying to find out whether God existed and how it could be proved. The only answer I ever got was that I should believe, which for me just wasn’t enough.

I began a detailed study of many things, in particular the creation of the universe and evolution before I got the answers I wanted. I can still clearly remember the day when I finally was convinced by EVIDENCE that God (or Allah, in Arabic) really did exist and have never looked back. Here’s a taster of a Qur’anic verse which is unique in that it is the only verse from over 6000 verses that gives us knowledge as to how the creation of the universe began: -

“Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth (meaning the universe) were joined together (ratq) in one piece, then We (meaning God, the Creator) rent them asunder (fataqa) and We got every living thing out of water. Will they then not believe?”
Qur’an - Surah al-Anbiyaa (The Prophets) 21:30 See also 24:45.

Actually, I was being serious. The brainwashing in the USA has convinced alot of the populace that Islam is bad and means terrorists. Their TV is censored and maybe will not show the reality - only the blinkered view of the white house.

Fortunately, in the UK, we have Islamic leaders and Islam followers regularly on the BBC who are able to guide our thoughts away from that. Islam followers are (in the main) law abiding and as normal as the rest, and live peaceful lives in multi-cultural areas (like Leicester for example). They are certainly no different from the rest of the UK people

Personally, I think christians and christianity are much more violent.

Aziz - go for it - I admire your initiative and good wishes to you, it's through people like you that we can (mostly) live in harmony in our multi-cultural land.

Edit - I saw a recent interview with Cat Stevens - excellent, he explained alot of the miguided thoughts people may have due to not understanding things. (sorry, I forget his muslim name)

Did you conduct a poll to come up with your"facts" regarding America and Americans or was it a wet finger in the air job.

I don't ever remember Christians issuing a Fatwa, but sure religions usually preach peace and practise violence tho' I'm sure that somewhere out there one doesn't, and of course not all followers of a religion are the same.

One would think that if there is a God he/she would have got his/her act together.

Paul, I have no interest in becoming religious with any religion. What I do know is that in the UK, generally we have harmony between various religious groups.
Whether I believe in it or not is by the way, religious harmony exists in the UK comparatively. If that is down to Cat Stevens, Buddah, Aziz or whoever, then this type of thread offering a little more understanding is good. I don't want to live in a country where religion A is fighting religion B.

I get sick of hearing people saying how good christianity is, then watch GWB as a so called christian ordering the death of US people and Iraqi people.

Lets have a thread on the merits of Islam / Muslim / Hindu - why not?
