I have a split database, the front end is showing to be 20.5 megs in size but there are only 4 forms and about 6 querys. Can someone tell me how to find what is making it so large?

I did a compact and repair but it did not reduce the size??

Thanks..

Are there images in it?

No images.

It is about as clean as I can get it.. I am stumped.

Is there alot of coding behind the forms? Are all tables linked from a BE?

Not much coding at all, all tables linked to BE. I can upload it if someone wants to take a peek.

sure I will but I'm only at work for another 15 minutes

Not to be captain obvious, but how is he to upload a 20.5MB database unless he has an FTP somewhere?

Just ask Google about Free Upload and there are lots of sites that will accept 20+MB file uploads for free.

My one Database front end got to be almost 60 megabytes (compressed).

I created a brand new database and imported all the forms, queries, reports, modules, etc. The re-linked that new front-end to the backend. Evrything worked great, except the new front-end was 20 megs. That is a huge savings.

I have routines that utomatically re-link my databases from network live copies to local "on the road/mobile" copies or back again to the network copy. Everytime I re-link, the front-end grows. I found I better compress it right there and then or it never shrinks again with the repair/compress function.

A technique we use is to hold a copy of the FE on the network and the FE loader that manages updates will copy the FE from the network as frewuenlty as you specify. So keeping the FE as small as posible.

What the?

Ok, Thanks everyone for the help. I have done some pretty heavy searching online and still cannot figure this one out. I have tried the new database and import, no change.

Where can I look to see what is making this thing grow? Surly text cannot do this? Do queries or reports make the DB larger? I have looked at the code for and it is very simple, forms have no pictures..etc..

Thanks.

This is probably a stupid question, but would you by any remote chance happen to be using lookups in your tables? I understand they cause ungodly bloat, with duplicates indexes and whatnots....

Good question, Banana. I have another one. Do you have any OLE objects embedded in the database?

do you have any temp files used in report productions. That causes massive bloat or importing, that does the same as well.

I know a few women like that :D

Oh BTW, I printed one of you help messages out this morning and madew the mistake of leaving it in our shared printer too. I got in trouble for printing those boobies out!
