This is a pointless discussion. Americans (but not all) will continue to carry guns until the cows come home, it will never change.

What kind of a fool would think belly-aching in a forum like this would change anything to begin with - :p

It gives closed minds a little more information in the hope that they may see that the general opinion may not be the same as theirs and possibly that they may in fact be wrong.

Not that anyone on the west of the Atlantic would admit they were wrong, everything seems to be perfection in the Americas.

Rich and I get criticised. It's usually an American misinterpreting or not understanding, so they lash out in the only way they have been brought up - they say we're anti-American etc etc etc.

Fortunately I think this is still a UK site - I was told recently if it was American I would have been banned ages ago.
That's American democracy for you. If you disagree with what Americans say, they'll wipe you out so the problem is eliminated. That's how the CIA work I understand.

I defend your right to express your honest opinions especially when backed up by the evidence. Its just that I feel your arguments are sometimes weakened when personal attacks are made.

I understand(but disagree with) your views on hunting animals but I did not think there was a need to imply that Ken was a bad shot who did not shoot properly.

Oh, I saw what you think the point was. I'm just not sure why you think I (or anyone else) think it's relevant to whether I support another American's right to own a gun in America, not that it really matters that much.

Pitty America doesn't hold the same view point about other countries in this world eh!:rolleyes:
Now personally I don't give a damn if America wants to uphold its right to shoot each other, but stop going to other countries for target practice

Ken shoots from the hip when he comes on here:mad:;):D

I'm sure Ken is a good shot. But logic dictates that you can't get a clean kill with the first bullet everytime. Therefore the animal must be in agony until the hunter gets real close and blows it's brains out.

Perhaps someone with experience of killing things can offer light on this?

Does that offer extend to Ken?

Are you sure that the meat on your table didn't suffer whilst it was alive, do you eat fish? Have you seen how they are dragged out of their environment to thrash about until they finally die?
Are you a vegan?

Brian

I'm guessing Ken fits the criteria, but his track record of answering questions is not that special. I can't see any hunter admitting they get anything other than a clean kill every time.

Of couse I eat meat and fish. Meat comes from a butcher and fish comes from a chip shop.

I am not a vegan, people that dress like Mr Spock are a bit sad I think.

I can't speak for anyone else who may be a hunter here, but the animals that I shoot never know what hit them. That's the reason most hunters shoot targets out of season. I certainly don't want to see the animal "writhe in agony" - and every hunter I know feels the same way.

Something else - I know it's anectodal, but it's pertinent - last week the wife and I were fishing on a very secluded lake. A truck drove up and down the dirt rode several times, and started yelling obscenities at us.
Apparently a couple of drunk locals. No big deal - until they stopped by my truck and waited for us to paddle in. Who knows what could've happened, had they not seen the .357 S&W plastered against my hip when I stood up from the canoe. They left without saying a word. Had I not had my gun, my wife and I would have just been more "victims" on the news.

My guns - come and get them!

And that answered which question?

Brian

I think it avoided the fact that all people who eat meat condone the long drawn out procedure of an animal being pulled from it's natural environment, transported in a big truck on a busy freeway to a slaughterhouse that is packed to the rafters with the corpses of his fellow brethren and echoes with the sound of torment from the ones who are soon to shift off this mortal coil.

Yes can you imagine if there were barbaric countries in this world that treated their fellow man in the same way:rolleyes:

So what would you have done? Shot them?. . . . . . Why not? - after all that's why Americans have guns.

Oh, get the wife to buy a holster for you - you'll be able to draw more quickly rather than undo plasters.

Also if you were fishing, why have a gun?

So, instead of shooting them, it would have been better to let them do who knows what to us? Why?

I don't know how they do things over there, but in America, guns and fishing poles have two different purposes.

And if they had had guns?

Brian

Then I'd really be glad I had my gun. Most non-criminals that "carry" know that they are the statiscal favorite if it came down to trading shots - because we typically target practice, where most criminals think they can shoot because they do it in GTA or saw it in a rap-video once.

BTW: I don't remember the last time THAT scenario even made the news, it just doesn't happen.

So you'd kill them and be sentenced for first degree murder?

It's easier to get the fish from the supermarket.

So why have a gun when you're fishing? I can't see the reason, unless it's so dangerous to go out without one. Do you always carry a gun?
