invests $4 billion over four years in distressed economies in the hopes of preventing people from fleeing to the United States because of security and economic crises.
After they're addicted to the free money then what?

We've been giving them free money for ever. They have just been syphoning it off rather than using it to improve the conditions of the poor. Trump finally put conditions on the money and started to withhold payments if they didn't stop the illegal traffic.

The GOP is ALL talk. They could have fixed the problem in 2017 when they had control over the House and the Senate but McConnell and Ryan prevented it due to their anti-Trump leaning. They could have fixed Obamacare but they allowed personal grudges to block the reforms.

I'm beginning to think that the American public believes that laws spring out of thin air and if you disagree with them you can just ignore them and the really bad thing is that they are OK with the president ordering the enforcement branches like the Border Patrol to ignore them!!!! They have no clue that it is up to Congress to change them if they are unfair and it is up to the Supreme Court to knock them down if they go against the Constitution. That was the point Trump was trying to make a few years ago when he ordered the implementation of the current laws to the LETTER. His hope was that Congress would step up and make a more rational and coherent system for immigration. We know where that went. Congress failed again. and Trump was the bad guy.

Has ANY reporter Biden why it is OK to simply open the southern border, COVID be damned?

What is very disturbing. Democrats impeach Trump on a subjective abstract topic, "abuse of power". What does that even mean in terms of "high crimes or misdemeanors"? Yet two Democratic Presidents, Obama and Biden, have refused to enforce immigration laws citing lame reasons. Biden has currently "opened the border". These purposeful actions, to circumvent enforcing laws, would constitute concrete specific definitive examples justifying an impeachment based on "high crimes or misdemeanors", yet they get away with it. Unbelievable (based on our new very low-partisan-bar for a justifiable cause to initiate an impeachment process).

Biden may never be asked by the complicit media concerning why he has "opened the border". Any such question, should one be asked, may actually be pre-loaded with a preamble along the lines of "please detail your humanitarian goals?", rather than an adversarial accusation of "please explain why you are avoiding enforcing immigration laws." Should Biden even be asked, the response will be that there is a humanitarian crisis justifying "opening the border". For a final insult, any answer Biden spews-out will end with accusations of Trump's "illegal", "racist", "xenophobic", and anti-humanitarian actions and that Great Loving Uncle Joe is fixing those travesties.

It's the "Democrat Machine" privilege. Only "important" people can ignore laws and get away with it. We have yet another crime committed by Hunter when he signed the application for the gun he bought a few years ago. He lied on his application and said he did not use drugs when he was a total addict at the time. If one of the Trump children had committed the same crime, they would be dragged off to jail so fast your head would spin and yet Hunter skates again. It is only good to live in a banana republic if you're the ones deciding which laws to enforce on which people.

Biden is relying on a Trump-era rule to turn away adults at the border. Oops, there goes that narrative.

What I find especially saddening is this. The only thing more painful than having to turn away desperate human beings at the border is to let them in, then deport them later, after they have begun to try to adjust to their new life - whatever that may be.

And yet, by the next time a Republican president gets elected and we have the amount of illegal immigrants that have been released into the country equal to a population of a city 3 times that of Chicago, (which will have happened under Biden), how are we going to solve that problem? By then, we only have two uncomfortable choices: Allow our country to be irrevocably changed by their presence (whatever that change is we can all dispute, but change is inevitable), or else remove them.

Right now it is obvious that Biden and Harris aren't terribly bothered by these huge volumes coming in. They know that the result will be someone else's awful choice to be forced to make - and no matter which way the next person goes, it will probably end up having benefited Democrats.

Reminds me a little bit of the issue of fiscal policy. It's much more fun, and popularity contest winning, to be the ones handing out free and increasingly worthless money, so Republicans always have to be "the bad guys"...Like the "bad guy" parent who doesn't give the ice cream or iPhone.

A crisis of Biden's own making.

Biden has said he will stop construction on the border wall, reinstate DACA, boost the number of refugees and make it easier for migrants to claim asylum. On asylum seekers, Biden has promised to end Team Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” program, which requires Central Americans seeking asylum in the United States to wait in Mexico while their cases are adjudicated. The goal of the program is to prevent asylum seekers from absconding before their court date.

On the subject of 'increase the democrats voter base', It will be interesting to see what kind of path to citizenship he wants to come up with.

Of course, the mere allowance of millions of new immigrants could in itself shift plenty of sympathetic hispanic votes in Biden's direction.

But at some point he is going to want to turn as many as possible into actual legal voters. Without ID's though, of course - ID's would be so terribly racist!

I like this Babylon Bee article:

All my friends who immigrated LEGALLY are against illegal immigration. The Democrats won't get any votes from them. Also, given their Catholic leanings, they are against the Democrat position of abortion on demand any time any reason including in the delivery room policy.

And many hispanics voted for Trump. But I think - think, just a guess - that Democrats are still hoping that the overall result of letting many new, government-dependent people in the country will end up tilting things further their way. You may be right - and I hope you are.
