Seeking a Moderator for the Moderators (4 Viewers)

So if the new mod was British, any potential violation post wouldn't be picked up for some considerable time until...
That thought crossed my mind as well

Something maybe to consider. The majority of users who post here appear to be American. Therefore, many posts that are posted is when us Brits are asleep. So if the new mod was British, any potential violation post wouldn't be picked up for some considerable time until the new mod has seen it. Just a thought.

Maybe have more than one moderator of moderators? One in each of these two countries would probably solve it, and any disputes between the two of them could be handled by Jon.

...or a moderator of moderators of moderators. 😉

Ah, hello again, amorosik. Interested in another linguistic difference between your folks and mine?

Yes, we have a common phrase that more or less expresses great difficulty in herding cats. The USA west of the late 1800s (Great American West) was a place where ranchers herded cattle to stockyards for sale. That worked pretty well for cattle - but cats? You try to herd them, they'll either scatter in every direction or they will lie down and look at you disdainfully.

As to "a clutter of cats" - that is the correct "collective" name of a grouping of cats. We talk about these collective names sometimes and wonder how a particular name is chosen. There is "a pod of whales" or a "school of fish" or a "flock of birds" (when generic). You can also have a "murder of crows" and a "gaggle of geese." And for cats, which lie around as though they were discarded where they lie, it is a "clutter."

I have got to ask, what is the collective for a group of moderators?

When I look it up, I get "no common word" - which means, I guess, that moderators must act alone a lot?

That means we are at liberty to choose our own word to describe a group of moderators!

The next few posts might be interesting!

Problem is we don't even know the parameters of what is to moderated, nor what the complaint alleged.

Good day AWF,
Allow me to share thoughts too,

Yup, Parameter is key!
Supreme Moderator needs that to check if everyone's following the rules.

Isaac said: "Doc man already IS a moderator"

The Doc_Man, already modding like a pro!
If Parameter's set, qualifications are clear, and we know who's in the running.

Sir Jon's quote is on point! "Level head and fair attitude" is a must!
Pathway's clear, now who's going to take the lead?

Here's another suggestion:
- Add a special Like/Dislike function for moderator decisions and democracy will take over.

The other day I had my comment moderated, it was a comment about the person this thread was started for, who knows why my comment was moderated, but you can bet I'd click dislike there. Also, I've had some of my posts removed in a certain thread about AI, who knows why that happened but if I knew who did it, you can bet I'd report it and click dislike really quick. It's probably the uncle gizmo who did it, but I don't even know and that sucks very much.

The collective name I know for cats is a clouder. However, since most of these collective nouns are made up for effect and are seldom very old anything will do. :)

I recall an AI thread where someone joined it and started spouting political garbage, polluting an otherwise benign thread... And I deleted the post... If that was you, well I hope you learned something from it and keep your politics where they belong...

As I'm a moderator I have the luxury of being able to delete individual posts... When I was just a normal user with no luxuries, I would have deleted the whole thread and started fresh. I've done that on numerous occasions to get rid of stupid comments from stupid people, disrupting an otherwise interesting thread ...

As this is an Access forum, perhaps a (Y)ule of mods - as in module . . . 🤣

Or a rater of mods . . .OK sorry I'll stop now

As for the mod of mods, I think the ideal characteristic would be to do the job so well, they would make themself redundant.
In this particular case, I think that has already happened without anyone needing to be appointed.

And there it is. I tend to agree. I know I've been away for a short vacation, but it seems to me that the moderators do a well enough job still that there's no need to have someone to moderate them. If there ever is a rare dispute that can't be mediated, Jon can step in. I just don't see it occurring enough that it requires anyone elevated.

As far as I can tell, everyone has done a fantastic enough job keeping things in order. Maybe this would be something to revisit if things change in the future.

Given this has come about as a result of UK law, I was going to suggest ‘the speaker’ as in the speaker of the House of Commons- the person who slaps down inappropriate behaviour of MP’s
