Hello readers 👋

I’m Shaffy534, or simply Shaffy.

I live in Bulgaria 🇧🇬 and was first introduced to MS Access back in high school. To be honest, back then we didn’t do much with it. Our teacher herself was quite unfamiliar with the software and didn’t really know what could be done with it. My passion for data management and database structuring came primarily from our school textbook, where I read about Access far more than my teacher was ever able to explain.

Fast forward to today, I still believe that Access, when used to its full capacity, is far more useful than many other pieces of software, as it allows you to design a database from scratch. Designing a database is, in fact, what I enjoy most about it 💻. Not that I’ve ever completed a database so complex that it could actually be used in practice—but that’s my goal.

Currently, alongside my main occupation, I’m involved as a side hustle in being a manager, accountant, and point of contact for the community building where I live. Because of that, I’d like to structure such a database and create an infrastructure that could be used nationwide. A bit ambitious—especially for a newbie—but as the saying goes, “The sky is the limit” 🚀. I hope that by working on such a project, I’ll get to know the software better and build up confidence in my skills.

Personally, I’d describe myself as a quiet, stay-at-home person who doesn’t really enjoy big crowds or noise. I’m a proud father of two cats 🐈🐈, and they mean the world to me. I prefer chatting or emailing over live meetings—typical introvert behaviour 😄. My favourite sport is swimming, because underwater no one talks to me 🌊.

My favourite music genre is ambient music.
Favourite film of all time: Memoirs of a Geisha.
Favourite character: Uchiha Itachi.

My dream is to spend my life by the sea or the ocean, watching the waves as I grow older 🌅. I love reading books and novels, with a slight tendency towards being a history nerd 📚. My primary education is in finance 💱, unfortunately 😅.

I guess that’s that.

Thank you for your time and attention 🙂

Welcome to the A.W.F. !!
I'm much like you in-person, meaning introverted and tend to take more to online discussions than live ones, with a few rare exceptions for a couple good friends. Then again, a couple good ones is worth 1000 meaningless ones. Watching the waves sounds like quite a luxury, I'm jealous, as I live in the Desert where we only have sand Dunes to watch. (Although, I'm only a 4 hour drive from a little gem of an ocean-point called Puerto Peñasco). In my high school we didn't have the internet yet, much less software! My degree is in political science, also unfortunately

I would like very much to have cats, but my wife will only tolerate a Dog. Thankfully, though, my dog is a very, very unusual one: Makes no noise of any kind (has never barked to our knowledge, had him since he was 2 and he is now 10-ish), doesn't jump up on people or nose-them, is very passive and mostly sleeps all day . I.E. much more like a giant cat than a dog. He is blonde in color, with one ear 'up' and one ear 'down', making him very much like that dog in the Disney show - a Dog with a Blog.

I enjoy designing front ends, which of course spring naturally from a well designed (first) back end table structure. In fact it's what I miss most about my previous employment, where 15+ years of database and UI design ended and now I do mostly sql server and snowflake query work, but I greatly miss the immense satisfaction of giving people useful screens to use and complete processes. however, I'm very thankful to have a job in a world where plenty wish for them so I am grateful for what I have.

Welcome and have fun on the forums
