Hi,

My question is about a startup form. I do not want to use a switchboard type 'menu'. I created a form with multiple sections:

1. Data Entry
2. General Reports
3. Accounting
4. Managers
5. Executive Suite

First, I used command buttons, then hyperlinks. To me each works equally well, but what I was wondering does it make a difference in usage or energy consumption? I couldn't find anything regarding the best practices, other than switchboard stuff. Any clues? My users seem to be fine with the interface at any rate.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about this, but I would think that there would be better options regarding security/restrictions using cmd buttons then hyperlinks. In a pratical sense, I think...that most people regard a cmd button as an internal link and a hyperlink as an external.

Those are my inexperienced thoughts!!!

Just out of interest, whats wrong with the standard switchboard?

Whether you have command buttons or hyperlinks, and whether they share form presence with data or other actions, you have a switchboard.

That is, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck and looks like a duck, it ain't a turkey buzzard.

I use command buttons only because it is faster to build one correctly using the button wizard to get me started and provide a ready-built framework.

Yes, I could code a hyperlink OnClick or a button OnClick, but the button wizard actually works pretty well when all you are doing is opening an existing form. Besides, it gives you a predicatable place to start if you want to add features (which I usually do).

Stated another way: The wizard is there already and works. Why reinvent the wheel when you can just customize the one you've got?
