I didn't hibernate, I got cheesed off with the Americans here slagging off anyone in Washington, plus all the abbreviations used mean nothing to most readers outside the USA- in other words it's boring, so I had a break for a month or two.

Back in the 1960's I knew a British evangelist called Don Summers. He was the English equivalent of Billy Graham who was also his friend. I was dating his daughter Lynn at the time. He lived in a massive house in the best part of Bristol, drove a top of the range jaguar and wore suits from Savile Row London. He travelled first class spouting his 'message' and the suckers fell for it and contributed tons of money in collections at his appearances, as well as paying entrance fees. Evangelists and travelling preachers make an absolute mint conning people. People never ask what happens to the money. It's a sure fire winner if you have the gift of the gab. Plus, you don't need to be 'christian', just say it with conviction like Billy Graham did.

Why isn't a trans's claim to be a woman cancelled for life after they ra**?
How can a rapist change into a woman between the crime and the court case and be referred to as a woman at their trial?
How can, what we assume to be intelligent people, incarcerate a rapist in a female prison and attempt to justify the decision?
After becoming a woman, how long is it before they stop needing to shave every day?
Why does this stuff from 0.04% of the population receive more coverage to that which is of interest to the other 99.96%?
If your young daughter, or granddaughter was followed into the changing room, or loo, by five trans, would you accept that?
How can a trans continue demand to use ladies changing facilities and ignore the considerable upset and anger that they cause?

I ask these questions because I am of a generation that has not been trained in such matters.

Once the new UK laws go into effect, we'll probably have to permanently ban Colin since he can't control himself or Jon will end up getting fined for Colin's hateful remarks.

Just to nit-pick the law isn't new - just the existing one clarified, so it's already in effect.

In England the government, NHS and many companies dumped illegal situations on us all because they weren't able to understand, or couldn't be bothered to read a ten year old act of parliament. Or, which is more likely, it suited their purposes at the time.
Now all of them, presumably including Downing Street, are proposing to install 'unisex' toilets in their buildings.

All of this begs the question "how can uni anything mean multiple" ? It is from the Latin UNUS from which unit is also derived. Uni means one, a unicycle has one wheel, or it did when I last looked.
So just how has unisex managed to be understood by some to mean many?

Just another example of (mainly by uneducated media) of the corruption of perfectly good words from ignorance or malice - like the word gender itself.

Other example which irks me are that things in UK are regularly described as 'iconic' when the word itself really refers to resembling a religious image.

Similarly how did the word cohort (a group of 600 to a 1000 soldiers) come to mean a year group in schools.

And the number of people that don't realize that the word 'faze' and 'phase' are not the same and have totally different meanings.

Laws in the UK are increasingly Orwelian. It is the slippery slope. The new online safety laws are just another nail in the coffin of letting people speak freely. The European laws were others. This clarification of "what is a woman" is a surprising breath of fresh air, considering the slow but inevitable slide into autocracy.

Two points. It's not narrow as it is the only applicable law. Secondly the answer to your question is yes (unfortunately). A Gender Recognition Certificate costs £6 .
