This is a very clever idea! It's the opposite of a compressed air accumulator... Instead of filling up the concrete sphere with pressurised air the pressure of the external water forces its way into the sphere and drives a pump which generates electricity....
It's design uses the hostile environment of the undersea to its advantage!
I had a long chat with chatty about it!
The sphere is well suited to resisting external pressure from the sea as the water in it is pumped out creating a vacuum.
To generate electricity a valve is opened to allow sea water to flow through the turbine and enter the sphere...
The depth provides extremely high pressures so the water flow rate is very powerful through the turbine..
