what are you reading?

I'd never read any of his works before - but some of the stories in this book are good enough for me to think about reading one of his novels.

Nobody writes short stories like Ray Bradbury! Ah I wish our library would hurry up and re-open :D

? - I think it was the rabid fanbase which I referred to as small ?
I read your remark as saying the "Small and rabid" fanbase was like Rich. Sorry if I misiunderstood. You will have to excuse an old man:D

30 years ago you may have been an old man, but 64 no longer seems that old :D Hmm, I wonder why...

My mother out law can help you with that. She's always banging on about your wife's books, she's a huge fan !:D

I didn't even know she was marketing her books "over there".
Are you sure your mother-"out"-law is referring to the same author?

I've read a collection or two of his stuff. I've always liked the stories that leave you thinking "WTF?"

The covers and the titles appear to be the same. She does have a friend who visits the states a lot, maybe she brought them back for her? I don't really know, I just know she keeps trying to get me to read them. The last book I accepted from her was "Run Baby Run" by Nicky Cruz (a very long time ago). While I enjoyed the book, it kind of made me warey of what to accept from "strangers" (ie mother out law)

I'm currently reading a book of instructions and it's crap!

Right at the minute I'm reading reams of SQL code that should have been documented a year ago and wasn't! Now I'm trying to figure out HTF do I get information from A to K???? Work sucks :p

Listening to jumping all over the world through the headphones at the same time doesn't exactly help:mad:

I'd never read any of [Crace's] works before - but some of the stories in this book are good enough for me to think about reading one of his novels.
His novels are all vastly different. Continent is a few stories based upon a world where there's a seventh inhabited continent, as if it's always been there. The Pesthouse is similar to Cormac McCarthy's The Road. There's a good overview of his works here.

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll go after The Pesthouse next. The Road read a little too much like poetry for me, but I liked the topic.

taking a break from my current book to read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. so far it's great.
here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shantaram_(novel). (haven't read it)
i noticed while looking for a link that it's going to be a movie soon, too.

I realised some months ago that I hardly ever read books by female authors and I determined to put that right. The Shipping News by E. Annie Proulx blew me away and now I'm reading her collection of short stories Bad Dirt. I'm definitely converted.
