I really don't mind popups and stuff, if it keeps stuff free.

However, I know some of this paid for advertising costs the advertiser, and I don't want to waste anyboy's money unnecessarily.

So is it just the ads by google in the header, and the sponsored links on the right, that actually cost anyone money?

Thanks

The ads by Google will always cost the advertiser. They have two methods: per click and per impression. Some advertisers pay for each time their ad is shown, others by each time they are clicked. There is nothing that indicates which adverts shown above are costing the advertiser by either method.

The amazon advert is on a commission basis. If you click the link and then buy something from amazon, we get a commission so long as its within 24 hours of clicking the link!

I hope that helps.

fine, thanks.

I use Amanzon alot however the link is to the US site not UK so here in the UK I can't use it to generate commission for you.

I will look into this. Amazon provides virtually no revenue for us so we may just remove them or replace with something else.

Jon,

Not that I know a lot of about advertising, but I think the google ads and/or amazon ''standards'' are dying out. I personally think the only chance these things have is on a site like facebook, when they can catch people at emotional highs and impulse times.

Other than that, I think consumer intelligence has pretty much trumped online advertising at this point.

I doubt that helps, but I do think you might be able to get something out of it to keep the subscription-based requirement out of here for a while yet. I have noticed that Playlist.com has now mandated advertisements every 5-10 songs when you're playing it at any time. That's also a good sign that the desperation for new revenue streams is increasing.

HTH at least somewhat!
