Here's an American Senator - who people voted for - trying to sue God!

LINCOLN, Neb. - Fed up with the threats, tired of natural disasters, the state's longest-serving state senator is using his legal muscle against who he says is the culprit — God. State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha sued the Almighty in Douglas County District Court last week.

Chambers, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, said he filed the lawsuit to show that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

That, he said, was recently illustrated by a federal lawsuit he said triggered his lawsuit against God.

How crazy is the USA?

Be interesting to see if God defends himself, or whether he is going to be a bail jumper or not :p

Just to clarify, he's not a U.S. Senator, but a Nebraska State Senator.

So where is Nebraska? Not in the USA?

1) Is he a Senator?

2) Is Nebraska in the USA?

If the answer is yes to both, then he's a US Senator surely.

Col

Only if he's not in the USA and he's not a Senator.

If you read the article, the senator filed the lawsuit as a form of protest against frivolous lawsuits. IOW, he wasn't being serious about suing God.

Yes.

Obviously.

If the answer is yes to both, then he's a US Senator surely.

He's a member of the Nebraska State Legislature but not of the U.S. Legislature, meaning he's a state senator in the U.S. but not one of the 100 U.S. Senators. Worded as it was "American Senator" implied to me being a Senator at the national level, which he isn't.

True, but couldn't he find a better way? Filing frivolous lawsuits wastes everyone's time and money, so by filing a frivolous lawsuit to protest frivolous lawsuits he is doing what he is protesting against. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Doesn't he have to pay for this himself?

The point is that he's a voted in senior government official.

In fact he's a dick-head who wants to try and sue a non existant fairy story figure. It's like trying to sue Peter Pan.

Surely to win, he would have to prove god exists - which he obviously can't.

I would hope so, but even if he doesn't carry it to its conclusion (which I don't see how he could) there will still be some amount of taxpayer monies involved for filing and processing and the time involved for the people that have to handle it, etc. At the very least he's wasting everyone's time which is bad enough. I tend to agree with Col on this one, the guy's a dickhead.
