Here is where your problem is Col; you seem to think that everybody in America is that way. What you don't realize is that it is our politicians and media that behave in that manner. Most of us here in the USA would like them to leave us alone as well, but you see these power hungry socialists that we have right now won't let that happen. They wish to control every aspect of everybodies lives. Something else you should know is that it was people like you who put these socialists in power.

Our administration isn't any better, our so called leaders tell us what we should be doing then do the complete opposite themselves...

I had no wish to give greedy bankers my hard earned money through Tax just to keep them in their mansions and sports cars...

I lost my hoime through this governments mishandling of the banks and the economy, yet they up until recently could afford to keep more than 1 home on expenses...paid for by me..

People say well it is the peoples fault for voting them in, but every political party is the same when they get into power...

The old saying.. Power Currupts, and absolute power currupts absolutely...

You might want to start a real debate on a new thread in politics. Taking a pot shot at our new democracy after 8 years of dictatorship. How uninformed could a person possibly be? Col, you are about to witness America the way it really is, divided by false profits, under the guise of preserving the family values…

The biggest scourge in America is right wing propaganda.

Jealousy; how do you think it would feel to know, that for the rest of your life, all you had to look forward to was living on a dreary little island.
Cheer up Col, global warming might make mother England into a tropical paradise. Then who would be laughing last? hehehe.
We were promised tropical weather when we had two dry years on the trot back in the seventies, guess what, it hasn't stopped pissing down since then:rolleyes:

That's becuase you get your information from a media paid for by the largest institutions.

Ummmm...wouldn't that be all media? I noticed they all take advertisements from very large companies. Or were you referring to the Houston Chronicle? That publication has the most liberal Editorial page I've ever seen (I've been fortunate to NOT have to read any of the northern rags).

why, from multi-billion dollar government bailouts so they can get their big multi-billion dollar bonuses for single-handedly f*ing the world ecomony and leaving all the workers and loanees (world-wide) on their a r s e s - THAT's not a media spin, american banks did that all on their own.

on the flip side, here in australia we survived because our previous prime minister (john howard) was a scrooge and put all the people's taxes into federal coffers... so while we avoided recession, because we had surplus to throw at the economy at the crucial time, we also now have no infrastructure, and not enough housing, of many other things, because no money was spent on them for the 12 years he was in office.

...and state-run hospitals and schools are suffering too mainly b/c of the syndey 2000 olympics, the state premier at the time decided it would be a fabulous idea to fund the olympic games with the state's infrastructure, transport, education and health funds instead of putting those funds into, well, infrastructure, transport, education and health! and each of his successors has had to be mopping up the mess - a thankless job, and a job they're really struggling with (b/c it's so hard and because the party is just not really been doing a good job)

so not only is america screwed up, ours is pretty dodgy too - like was previously said - power begets corruption- i'm sure it's an international phenomena.

we're all hoping our current prime minister, kevin rudd, will straighten a few things out in the federal level though we are all still weary and jumpy...

our local federal representative (belinda neal - yes, she's had a few run-ins with the media, but most of it is just spin and ratings-pushers) is doing a really good job of keeping up with the electoral promises, and making noticeable improvements (even the local newspapers report successes - which is rare!): so there is hope.

we in australia (at least all the people i know personally) were very glad when bush jnr was voted out and obama voted in - we're a little weary of what his aims are, but still prefer him. is the sentiment not the same in america?

Canada did not relax their banking laws as much as the rest of the globe did while the pigs were getting fat so we are also in better shape then most. A lot of the American companies which operate in Canada had to reorganize a bit though which is a hardship on some people.
We are generally glad to see Mr.Bush doing other things but unfortunately he keeps showing up here to talk at the Canadian Club - I would rather hear Conrad Black speak on a day pass thank you very much... Mr.Obama seems to be generally good for his country and not so bad to their neighbours to the immediate north.

Do they not use capital letters in Australia?

I lived and worked there for 3 years. Correct grammar and spelling were non-existent.

The men cared more for beer, and the women were the same. The only difference between them is the women can spit farther.

There's no class in Australia - Americans would get on well there.

Col,
I would love nothing more than wasting an entire morning in the fruitless endeavor of enlightening you; however I am flying in to Houston today to visit my folks.

Merry Christmas you old Bastard. Try to be in a good mood next year, would you?

A little off subject I agree; however (and this is a subject for an entire thread) writers owe their readers the respect of using proper English.

I have to labor through my spelling problems, by pasting everything I write from MS word. I then reread it to try to catch all of the grammatical errors.

I do that because I have the discipline to create complete works, not half thought out deliveries.

So I guess maybe my response was not quite so poor as all that.

Would you prefer to purchase a car with a bad paint job and a good engine, or would you choose one with a good paint job as well?

There are many faces of mental laziness.

Oh how so much I agree, there is far too many spelling errors and worse the use of incorrect words, such as there for their or vice versa, people don't seem to care, no I'm not talking about the odd typo.
