Marc - oddly with a "c". I see no reason to ignore you. You are entitled to your comments. I have been banned loads of times, mainly because of a certain yank who wields excessive power.
But remember, others are also entitled to comment also. You can see by some posts that several Americans have problems using English, helping them out is surely helpful and not seen as anti American.
Can you indicate when I have been blatantly racist? So Americans are not racist?
Col
Of course Americans are racist. What does THAT have to do with anything? I believe that some degree of racism is present in each and every one of us - but we - or I at least - take great pains to suppress it because I know it's wrong.
Even your question to me is a bit on the prejudiced side, Col - because I made a comment about a specific individual - i.e. you, and you turn it back to me by asking if the citizens of a whole country - namely The United States of America are racist. So you go from the specific to the general - which is a form of racism.
And I'm aware that the term "racist" is a bit inappropriate, as "American" is not a race, it's a nationality, and our nation is represented by every single race on the entire planet - and they're all welcome here - one of the great things about us, which our critics rarely mention. And I'm not saying, Col, that you are heinous or malicious, really, but I've been put on the defensive many many times by your comments and no, I can't give you a specific example - it's a feeling I have. To dredge up all the posts where you've made negative comments about us would take more energy than I possess, at the moment - it's been a long day.
And I'm aware that my great and powerful country has pulled a lot of sh!t in it's relatively brief history, much that I don't agree with, much that I wish never happened. But you should be aware that it's the government of a country that pulls the sh!t, not the citizens. In fact I'm of an age when I was in college when there was vast disapproval of my country's policies, in Vietnam, in Chile, In Europe, in a whole host of places, and I was among the dissenters.
And I'm aware that many of our citizens are crass, ill-mannered (at least by some standards) and have a poor command of the American English language. But I would hope, by now, that you have realized that not every one of the 300 million citizens of my nation display the kind of poor temperament, etiquette, and sloppy language skills that you apparently ascribe to us all.
And if I've totally misrepresented you, then tell me I've done so, that you DON'T in fact think we're all pinheads, that America has done SOME good in the world, and that you think that some of us are in fact worthy of friendship, compassion, and respect, and I might change my mind about you.
That is all (for now)
