American eating challenge

I normally like my steaks medium well (pink, but not bloody). My ground beef (hamburger) well done (hamburger is more prone to bacteria contamination, from what I have read). So far no food related sickness (fingers crossed).

We enjoy our neighbour's tasty little Dexter cows which are only pastured on organic fields. There is a huge difference in quality between food properly grown and the enhanced crap sold commercially to consumers.
I think the trouble in USA for the food chain is that the marketing firms have convinced most of the population that quantity is far better then quality (in every consumer commodity).

For a few years our family raised a few beef cattle mostly for our consumption. For the most part, the cattle just had local grass to eat. Just a few weeks before they were slaughtered, they got some corn meal. Some of the best beef I have ever had.

Funny you should say that. I found a place in TX that had steak "All you can Eat" for $9.95. I did find a belt buckle embedded in my steaks once.:D

Not what one would consider t o be healthy eating, the mere thought of it makes me feel ill.

Can one actually taste the steak?

Brian

There are all kind of articles out there about what not to eat. When I find one it reminds me of when I was in high school. I came across an article that said "Kissing" spread germs, so I stopped immediately, reading, that is????

To cook a steak.

First knock off it's horns, then wipe it's bum. Now chase it once around the grill plate and it is done.

My Dad is probable turning over in his grave as the saying goes. Whn I was 10 thru12 he took me dealers meetings and they always had filet minion, rare to medium rare. All I would do ear around the burnt edges. 50 years all all I eat is rare to medium rare. I have a wife that has tried to get me on salads. I told here I am not a cow, I can't eat all that grass. I told her that I have a morbid fear of gong to the hospital and dieing of nothing.

I had a colleague who always ate his steaks Blue. Some better restaurants would ask if that was cold or warm blue.

Now that is what I call a rare steak especially when eating a large eye fillet.

Col loves to have a dig at America and Americans...Brian

Brian, I saw your post just now, and I'd like to add the following:
What Col does is not just a "dig". The blatent rascism/bigotry against Americans by he and others in this forum is the main reason I have largely stopped posting here. I use the forum now primarily as a reference to answer my Access questions.
I don't understand why this behavior is tolerated, especially in a supposedly highly educated and relatively "liberal" group.

Now I expect I'll either have the crap heaped on me for being an "ugly American" or else I'll be ignored altogether.

Have a nice day to everyone.

Marc - oddly with a "c". I see no reason to ignore you. You are entitled to your comments. I have been banned loads of times, mainly because of a certain yank who wields excessive power.

But remember, others are also entitled to comment also. You can see by some posts that several Americans have problems using English, helping them out is surely helpful and not seen as anti American.

Can you indicate when I have been blatantly racist? So Americans are not racist?

Col

Don't feed the trolls. It's really that simple.

Of course Americans are racist. What does THAT have to do with anything? I believe that some degree of racism is present in each and every one of us - but we - or I at least - take great pains to suppress it because I know it's wrong.

Even your question to me is a bit on the prejudiced side, Col - because I made a comment about a specific individual - i.e. you, and you turn it back to me by asking if the citizens of a whole country - namely The United States of America are racist. So you go from the specific to the general - which is a form of racism.

And I'm aware that the term "racist" is a bit inappropriate, as "American" is not a race, it's a nationality, and our nation is represented by every single race on the entire planet - and they're all welcome here - one of the great things about us, which our critics rarely mention. And I'm not saying, Col, that you are heinous or malicious, really, but I've been put on the defensive many many times by your comments and no, I can't give you a specific example - it's a feeling I have. To dredge up all the posts where you've made negative comments about us would take more energy than I possess, at the moment - it's been a long day.

And I'm aware that my great and powerful country has pulled a lot of sh!t in it's relatively brief history, much that I don't agree with, much that I wish never happened. But you should be aware that it's the government of a country that pulls the sh!t, not the citizens. In fact I'm of an age when I was in college when there was vast disapproval of my country's policies, in Vietnam, in Chile, In Europe, in a whole host of places, and I was among the dissenters.

And I'm aware that many of our citizens are crass, ill-mannered (at least by some standards) and have a poor command of the American English language. But I would hope, by now, that you have realized that not every one of the 300 million citizens of my nation display the kind of poor temperament, etiquette, and sloppy language skills that you apparently ascribe to us all.

And if I've totally misrepresented you, then tell me I've done so, that you DON'T in fact think we're all pinheads, that America has done SOME good in the world, and that you think that some of us are in fact worthy of friendship, compassion, and respect, and I might change my mind about you.

That is all (for now)

When are we going to learn.

The Water Cooler is not a place where you have to behave.

It is for Fun. And Col has more fun than all the rest of us put together.

Have a nice day.

It's amazing how we can turn an innocent thread about eating challenges, into a Bash Col, Bash a Yank thread...

Oh well... business as usual I guess..
