My husbands former step-dad had this one. When he passed away, his Mom didn't have much use for it so we inherited it. It's a pretty nice one.

My hubby is somewhat of a food (and especially BBQ) fanatic and has gone so far as to watch BBQ shows and take notes and copy down recipes. He has his own notebook he keeps all his secrets in. He's gotten pretty proficient at smoking ribs and briskets, etc. and making them tender and yummy.

Never been to a BBQ, the smell of all that burning flesh puts me off!!!!.

beer can chicken is really easy

Oh yeah like this :

Should try that with a Chateau Cheval Blanc 1986 ;)

i hate using aluminum paper on veggies then they all taste like aluminum.

Actually it's aluminium not aluminum:rolleyes:

and it's foil not paper. Apart from that your post was fairly interesting on what to do with an old cooker.

It''s kind of like color and colour. Don't worry Colin, I'm sure the UK spelling is correct. Americans can't speak or spell English. :p

I've actually thought of getting one of these:

Something about sticking a beer can up there with all the inks and stuff on it seems kind of gross even if I know I've washed the can.

Exactly. Either one would be correct so there is no need to correct someone else's spelling of the word. :D

And yes, sadly many Americans are practically illiterate when it comes to grammar and spelling. :(

Well even in our cool and miserable spring I've used my bbq several times already. A thick Rib eye steak Pittsburgh medium I believe (black on the outside, pink in the middle) or a nice fresh Sea Bream or Red Mullet stuffed with lime and herbs. Yum.

BTW, each to his own but I think there is an amazing amount of snobbery over gas barbecues, personally I would never go back to buggering about with charcoal with all the mess and never ending waiting around for it to reach the cooking stage. In 5 minutes my gas grill is cooking. As for "it doesn't taste the same" you'd just have to be a lousy cook to get an inferior result with gas. Burning fat, which is what creates the smoke/flavour is burning fat, whether it burns on a lump of hot charcoal or hot metal.

If you're in any doubt cook the same food on gas and charcoal, throw a couple of sticks of freshly cut grapevine or fruitwood or a bunch of herbs alongside the meat and then do a blind tasting test.

Americans can't speak or spell English.

Glad that's been established. All we need to do now is educate you in the correct spelling of those words the USA has bastardised.

Aluminium and colour are a good start.

Now lose the words gasolene - it's petrol, faucet - it's a tap. Oh and lose the words world domination - it's a joke.

Only one version is correct worldwide - the other is 'correct' only in the USA - better to get the more popular version used as the Yanks think they can travel anywhere and speak this strange pigeon English.

I know it'll be hard for you, but best try and get things correct.

However there are far more american speakers than english speakers so perhaps it is us on this side of the atlantic that will have to change. Having everday experience of the the lack of spelling and grammar skills in today's UK youth I sometimes despair of the future of the language.:(

Trust me the way things are going, textese will be being taught in schools as the Queen's English.

The population of the USA is greater than that of the UK - true. But it is not a basis for destroying the correct way to speak and write English.

The Americans are incorrect in their slang way of writing and speaking, it does not mean the English grammar we have had for centuries should have to change. If Americans come to the UK, they should learn correct English, as they should when communicating with people other than their own.

Textspeak is terrible. I always use correct grammar (commas, brackets and punctuation marks) when I text people.
