Christmas and Bob Hope

And Col is a bit apathetic when it comes to people of color as he refers to them as having a 'hint of the tar brush' (or something like that)...
What's color?

It's the way Americans spell colour - like you didn't already know from the dozens of times Yanks have spelled it that way in the past. If you want to start a discussion on the differences between Websters and Oxford, say so.

As for President-Elect Obama, can we at least let the man get his hand off the bible before we start making negative comments about him.

It's also the way it's spelt in Latin.

Colour or Color ?

All I remember from my Latin is:
Ubi est Roma?
Hic est Roma.

I still love the credit in British films: "Tehcnicolor Colour Consultant" as Technicolor is a registered trademark

You probably had the American translation and not the English one:cool:

As I recall the text had only Latin in it, no English at all (of either type).
Teaching aids were pretty barren back in those days. We had to dodge the dinosaurs as we walked 10 miles to school barefoot in the snow, uphill both ways.

But I digress...

Yes as we've mentioned here before, that's the trouble with the Yanks and the elderly, always living in the past and recalling the good old days that were actually anything but:rolleyes:

Something akin to being referred to as "The Colonies" from you British types.

Yes, like the days when Britain really was Great and led the world.
Not like today with a variety of impotent gestures:
retaining the pound instead of shifting to the Euro.
maintaining a nuclear deterrent at staggering expence that would make any third world country shudder (watch out Albania).

A source of pride in the UK. A source of mirth for the rest of the world.

As we've told you before, Great Britain was an abrv. for the Greater British Isles, since Ireland left the union Great Britain no longer exists as a single entity.

That's why the Yanks still need us to hold their hand in Iraq, Afghanistan etc:rolleyes:

and we the British don't want the Froggie Euro:mad:

How can an island not exist as a single entity

There were four countries in Great Britain and more than one Island

color in latin means colour in English. Is that clear enough for everyone?

It is not necessary to know latin to be considered a gentleman but one should at least have forgotten some
